Saints Row 2 is a great game but I feel the game was messed up by the end of the first game, basically at the end you get blown up on a ship, then the developers decided they would make a second game but wait, your characters dead, I know lets say he miraculously survived and is recovering in prison, yeah and while we're at it lets modify all the other characters to make it look like some times passed by, no not all that great. I must say though this is evened out by the fact that new gangs have taken over whilst you were in prison and the cities a wreck, yep typical gangster games!
The graphics are good, the characters are amazing, I love the way when you see Julius in a secret mission he has exactly the same battle scars plus a few, the scenery/ game map is really good, another thing the developers ruined for themselves is the fact that they blew up some of the map in the first one, so therefore they had to knuckle down and think up some more add-ons to the map, can I just say whoever was thinking, think some more, I love the new map, I enjoy just driving around and learning the map. The guns/ cars are also more developed than the first one; you can actually tell what gun a person is using by looking at it! The cars are good aswell, you have more variety, and the cars also have more depth in the interior.
The gameplay is really good, starter car customization, it is amazing, you have more options this time and, yes you CAN customize lorries, ambulances and combine harvesters, this is an amazing feature because you can put nitrous, hydraulics and even a body kit on a big lorry! The next part of the gameplay is the missions, they are definitely more challenging, but you get a various amount of money all the way through career, the clothing stores have more clothes in them.
The other ways of progressing is completing activities, you get various amounts of money for the levels you go up, you also get respect which you need to do missions, if you don't have respect you can't do any missions, again the currency is dollars, you can also buy houses in this game instead of just being able to win them in the first one, the best one costs $140,000 and you can also get an 'airport hangar' as in the second game you can fly aeroplanes and helicopters, the hangar costs $50,000 and you can also drive a boat.
The sound quality is really good in the second game, character voices are all the same and well doing, but the background music can I say is Amazing, so much variety, there is about 50 tracks in each genre, the sound effects have been fixed in this game and they are quite good, the rocket launcher actually sound like a rocket launcher, and also when you get a rubbish car off the street it doesn't have a big V8 engine.
In conclusion Saints Row 2 is a great game I think that if your going for a modern gangster game this beats GTA every day of the week, it is currently priced at around £20 and I would rate it 7/10 story, 10/10 graphics, 10/10 gameplay and 9/10 sound, overall I would rate this game a 9/10, appreciate comments, thanks for reading, Liam]
