...The Saitek ST290 joystick offers a good quality gaming experience without the massive costs of some higher end models. The joystick is wired and plugs straight into an availabe USB port for a great 'plug and play' experience. No programming is necessary for the joystick as this is sometime done by the game that you are playing (especially Microsoft Flight Simulator).
The joystick features a height-adjustable hand rest which is great for people with different sized hands and can be adjusted easily by a simple screw. The joystick has five buttons which can be used for different purposes such as changing views or whatever you need them to do. There is also an eight-way hat switch which is very easy to use and can be used to do things such as move around views. There is also the trigger which is appropriately placed to give a great...

...The X52 Flight Control System is a highly configurable HOTAS (Hands on Throttle and Stick controller. The Controller is comprised of two seperate units, the main joystick controller and a seperate throttle unit. The two units are connected by a detatchable cable and is powered direct from USB. If using a USB hub I'd recommend using a powered one as you may it may not work too well off of a non-powered hub.

The stick itself is very comfortable to use. The handle has 5 position settings to suit different hand sizes. All the controls are within easy reach without having to strain your fingers or thumb.
The main trigger is metal and operates a two-stage button. press it part way and it will activate one switch and if you press it all the way it activates a second.
Underneath this trigger...

Advantages: Customisability, 12 buttons, looks, price, recalibrations few and far between Disadvantages: Throttle in a funny place, hand support uncomfortable
...I've had a number of Logitech and Saitekjoysticks over the years and while the Logitechs are good, nothing beats Saitek for affordability and reliability in my opinion.
The Evo is very, very pretty to look at (despite a friend's insistence it looks like the spaceships in the 50's War of the Worlds movie). Brushed stainless steel panels, good sized black buttons that are numbered - an important feature often overlooked. Chunky metal screws, trigger at a good angle, a point of view hatswitch nestled between the main thumb accessed buttons and a chunky hand support that can be moved depending on the size of your hand. Plug the thing in and the 6 buttons on the base light up as well as the small "Evo" panel on the top of the joystick. Other nice touches are: where the joystick meets the base in resting position is sealed so dust cannot...

I picked up my Saitek Cyborg Evo Joystick for 50p down at the local car boot sale. Good condition, all the buttons, clean, good as new, literally. At first, I thought "this isn't going to work, 50p? This costs around £49 brand new!" but how wrong I... more
