Well, to me, the first impression was that it is "traditional" and much smaller than i had expected - ok, it is "not" ... ...than i "expected" meant that saks was not!
Here is a tip - avoid weekends when locals pour into it - we were there in spring 2000 and the shop was heaving on saturdays! not pleasant i can assure you.
The store is split by interest - so to save time if there with your partner, just "agree" to meet up on the top floor for lunch in about 1-1.5 hours - then leave one another alone to look round at what ... more

Oh here is one thing to do - visit the loos! No, I mean it - loos are rare to find that you can use in new york - but these are available and very very clean too - if you have children with you it can be a godsend to find these.
Fitting rooms are available and you must try anything before buying as there is little chance of taking it back when you get home to the UK!
combine a trip with a visit to central park - just a few minutes walk away - a nice contrast to the hussle and bustle of the shops!

...one might expect shops like Saks to inflate prices due to their exclusive nature, the prices are still very competitive with other stores. A great time to visit Saks is in early September, as there are tax free sales, which can make your money go even further. There is still a disparity in the amount of departments and space designated for menswear and womenswear, but the range is incredible. A word of warning though, that Maestro and Cirrus Cards ...
