Birdseye Salmon Fish Fingers
I actually started buying salmon fish fingers when I saw them in Iceland, they were actually the Iceland own brand, and were £1 for 10 fish fingers. I’m not really a fish finger/chicken nuggets person, and I am one of those who will feed kids what I eat minus the extra salt, and if they don’t like it then tough, they’ll get it for breakfast the next morning, then lunch, then dinner again until it’s gone. But as I don’t have kids of my own, and I have a husband who works nights, sometimes it’s easier to stick some fish fingers in the oven for 20 minutes than make a big spaghetti Bolognese, most of which will be wasted as I won’t be able to eat it all. So we often buy bags of fish fingers for the freezer for quick convenience food for lunch, or for when we get the munchies after going out to the pub and having too much to drink! So back to the story...we saw salmon fish fingers and thought we would give them a go, not really knowing what to expect, but been a big salmon lover I thought they’d be quite yummy, and I wasn’t wrong!
Taste Test
The salmon which is inside the fish fingers is actual salmon, and has real flakes inside, unlike some fish fingers which have mashed up unrecognisable fish inside, and has a real salmon fishy taste, making them much more healthy for kids than the mushed up processed rubbish which you get in a lot of these convenience foods. If you like salmon steaks, then you will love these little fingers of deliciousness, as they really do taste of salmon and you don’t feel like you’re eating the off cuts of last month’s left over’s. The taste is very different to normal fish fingers, so fussy kids might get a little funny about eating them, especially as they are pink inside too, they might think you’re trying to feed them hidden veg! But for kids and adults who aren’t fussy they’re very more-ish, and you’ll want more and more!
The breadcrumbs around the edge of the fish fingers is a little soggy, so if you like more crunch in your bread crumbs, you need to cook them for around 10 minutes more than the recommended time, otherwise the bread crumbs do seem very slimy and sticky, but I feel that is the same with all fish fingers be them Birdseye or not and I always cook them for half an hour rather than the recommended 20 minutes. They have a very yummy taste and are a brilliant alternative to the original fish fingers!!
Smell SensationWhen the fish fingers are cooking there is a delicious smell which starts to come from the oven when they are getting near to eating time, a gorgeous bread crumby smell mixed with a slight smell of cooking fish. The smell when they are cooking is mouth watering, and really appetisers you for your meal! When the fish fingers are cooked, the smell remains until you have munched your way through the plate’s worth!
