I build computer systems for a living and each machine is supplied with a 17 or 19" CRT, i would consider i've had a wide experience of monitor brands and whats available to buy, and lets face it, theres loads to choose from. I personally bought a Sampo 17'' monitor (a Alphascan 718 to be precise)exactly a year ago. It came with the usual 3 year warranty, cables, manual etc. cost £110.00 Great!!!. Looks nice, very snazzy and easy to use, great picture.... Ive now had it replaced 7 times. Okay sampo will replace a faulty monitor within 24 hours, which they do. Fine, what they don't tell you is you get a reconditioned one, that at some time in its life has probably also developed a fault, and if you havent guessed already, like me, you'll get another faulty one or one that just doesnt work correctly. How Wonderful. I have also shipped the 15'' TFT versions with some systems, Ive also had them back at some time with pixel problems. Come on Sampo get it together! I wouldn't recommend this model, and certainly wouldn't buy another one! Anyone else had trouble? why not email me (mvidler@orange.net), perhaps you work for sampo, tell me why im having so many problems, id be very interested in your comments!
The good bit. Apart from that, trying not to be too harsh, the picture quality of these monitors in particular the 718(when they work)is superb. The image quality is noticably clearer than other brands and there is an extensive range of on screen options to finely adjust the screen settings to your own needs. The startup time for this unit is also second to none, the screen appearance is almost instantaneous from initial switch on. It has a stylish modern design that looks appealing to the eye, and will fit easily onto any workstation (as its not too big in the rear!!!)However another let down is the length of the cable, it needs to be longer to accomodate corner desks, you'll probably find yourself needing extension leads for the power and the computer itself. Other than that its attractive, easy to use, great for game play and somewhat easy to install. And if you do find yourself with a problem, you will get a replacement monitor within 24 hours regardless, Sampo does have a sport a very quick turn around.(UK ONLY)However with my experience of sampo, Im still not impressed at all.
Useful Info This is my own personal experience of dealing with sampo, if you do buy this model, like with all products please read the terms and conditions regarding warranties and replacement units for this sort of equipment. Makesure you fully understand what your buying, if your not sure, contact your supplier or dealer and ask questions.
