I have had just a normal camera all these years and have been fed up with the number of prints, when developed that have been terrible, have had a thumb in the way of the lens, all blurred or completely off centre. So I thought it about time I invested in a digital camera with which I could see the quality of the pictures before I actually got them printed.
So, I bought myself a digital camera from JESSOPS for a price of £79.99, a bit pricey but sometimes quality is expensive!
The camera is Samsung DIGIMAX A502. As you can see in the picture up top, it is black and silver in colour, I don't like the all-silver ones. Other colours available for the same model are, red and silver, or neo silver, although I wasn't offered a choice of colours so presume they only had the black and silver in stock which I would have chosen anyway.
This camera has 5.0 mega-pixel resolution, 5X digital zoom, 1.8" TFT-LCD monitor, SHD lens.
The software CD is for transferring the pictures onto a computer using the USB cable, so there are certain system requirements your computer would have to have:
FOR WINDOWS ---------------------- >Pc with processor better than MMX Pentium 233MHz (XP: Pentium II 300 MHz)
FEATURES ON THE CAMERA CASE ------------------------------------------------- Front and top: Power button, microphone, self-timer lamp, lens, USB connection port, Focus ring, Strap eyelet, flash, shutter button.
Back and bottom: Mode button, Camera status lamp, Zoom W button (Thumbnail), Zoom T button (Digital zoom), LCD button, 5-function button, play mode button, delete button, tripod socket, LCD monitor.
mode button ----------------- As well as taking pictures on this camera it can also be used for making movie clips, the mode button can be pressed to switch from still image (photos) to movie clips, the movie clip can be recorded for as long as the available recording time of the memory capacity allows. In the still image mode you can choose from portrait, landscape, night and fireworks scenes.
SELF-TIMER LAMP ------------------------- There are three options for the self-timer lamp, it can be set to take the photo after 2 seconds, for the 2 seconds, the lamp blinks quickly at 0.25 second intervals, hardly enough time to get into position!
Also it can be set to take the photo at 7 seconds, for the first 7 seconds, the lamp blinks at 1 second intervals. For the final 3 seconds, the lamp blinks quickly at 0.25-second intervals.
Or it can be set to take a photo at 10 seconds and 2 seconds later another picture will be taken.
THE FLASH ----------------
Now this is the only disadvantage of the whole camera, the flash is VERY bright and flashes very quickly 3 times when each photo is taken, this is terrible if, like me you take photos mainly of your children. I took a photo of myself (ugh)using the self-timer, and the flash was blinding, DO NOT USE THE FLASH WHEN TAKING PHOTOS OF CHILDREN OR PETS. But if you do want to use the flash for photos of objects, scenery etc. there are several modes for the flash: AUTO FLASH - If the subject or background is dark, the camera flash will operate automatically.
AUTO & RED EYE REDUCTION - If a subject or background is dark, the camera flash will work automatically and will reduce red eye effect by using the red eye reduction function.
FILL IN FLASH - The flash fires regardless of available light.
FLASH OFF - The flash does not fire
Sharpness of the pictures can be altered, there is soft, normal or vivid. You can also choose wether to take just a single picture in one go or 2, 4 or 8 shots one after the other. There is a choice of 9 pre-set picture frames to choose from or not have one at all. It is possible to add special effects to your pictures, NORMAL: No effect is added to the image B & W: Converts the picture to black and white SEPIA: Captured pictures will be stored in a sepia tone (a gradient of yellowish brown colours).
You can view the pictures you have taken, on the LCD monitor, and any that you don't wish to keep on there you can delete them using the delete button. Any that you want to keep can simly be left on there or transferred onto a computer using the USB cable and the software CD. You can print the pictures once they are stored on the computer.
There is a camera shake warning where a little hand appears on the LCD monitor to let you know that the camera isn't held steady. You can also set the time and date, you can choose to have the date imprinted on the pictures or not, I find this very useful for remembering when my photos were taken.
All in all I think this is a great camera, I love it, it may sound complicated but once you get the hang of it, it is easy to use.
