We seem to get through DVD players in our house like there is no tomorrow. Either they end up with toast stuffed in them or they refuse to play half of our DVDs because there's a speck of dust on them. I think this is either the 3rd or 4th DVD player that we have had to buy in the last few years. What we decided we were after this time was something by a decent company. that didn't cost the Earth and looked fairly robust! We purchased this DVD player from comet's website, it's priced at £69.99. I like Samsung products in general but hadn't tried a DVD player from them before so we thought we'd give them a go. What really sold it for us was the Divx playback feature. The dimensions are 50.5x24.0x24.3(H/W/D)cm This DVD player will play just about anything, DVDs, CDs, VCD, MP3s, CDRW, DVD-R , DVD-RW, DVD+R and DVD+RW . However, it does not have DVD RAM compatible playback. A word of warning, this DVD player has a scart socket but does not come with a scart lead [which entailed a trip to tesco for us!]. The player works well and is simple to use [our 4 year old has no problems!]. The instructions were clear and the machine and remote seem to be fairly good quality and worth the money. We've only had this player for a few weeks but it seems to be working well and has resisted the children's attempts to destroy it so far!
Advantages: Size, Upscaling and Sound Quality Disadvantages: Remote control, menu system keeps forgetting settings...
This Samsung 1080p DVD player is the perfect companion for any of the latest Samsung LCD and Plasma TV's. We currently own the Q96 Plasma model and the F1080 fits just under the TV, it is smaller than the stand on the TV. But it has all of the features of the chunkier 1080p dvd players. Another plus to Samsung customers is that it has the Anynet+ function, meaning you can use the tv remote to control the DVD player. This is suggested as the remote ... ...small and useless in my view. There are a few firmware faults with this model, for example it sometimes won't play a DVD on initial startup and you have to restart the player as it just blue screens.
The upscaling quality is good, however I have only my xbox on vga connection to compare it to.
Upscaling quality: 8/10
Connections: 9/10 Remote: 2/10
Menu System: 5/10 (can be annoying at times)
Sound Quality: 10/10 (on 5.1 setup)
Anything else ...

Advantages: most popular multimedia formats, upconver, small Compact Disadvantages: No display on unit
Small Compact, reads most format DVD, Upconver
No display on unit (but its on screen if needed)
"Overall Im happy with purchase. you cant go wrong with it. The remote is a bit small but works great. I have ordered an HDMI cable and cant wait to see how good the upconvertion is."
plays the most popular multimedia formats like DivX, MP3, WMA, JPEG and MPEG-4 clips. Slim, Why have a huge dvd player when you know the guts only take up a small fraction ... ...One HDMI cable is so nice as well. DVDs look great on my 42"" 1080i LCD tv.
But setup menu is REALLY slow to respond. No bundled HDMI cable, just a completely useless RCA cable.Weird buttons on the top. I wish they'd just have front buttons so I can stack stuff on it - but I guess it looks cooler. ...
