you need a DVD player such as this Samsung model. It takes the picture and uses clever electronics to increase its size and quality, making it suitable for today's high resolution HDTVs.The problem is HDTVs have about four times the resolution of regular DVDs, so some players will just enlarge the picture, or zoom in on it. This makes the picture on the HDTV look low quality. This player however will let you watch your entire DVD library on an HDTV, even making it look better than on a regular TV. It uses progressive scan technology to deliver the highest possible resolution from a DVD, and motion that is far more film-like than normal. The player keeps cable clutter down with HDMI version 1.3, which lets you connect a single cable to your HDTV.Samsung's Anynet+ system lets you control all your Samsung HDMI enabled devices (HDTVs, Blu-Ray players) with one single remote - gone are the days of fumbling through several remotes to pause your movie. It will play a wide range of DVD and CD formats, and also play digital files such as MP3, WMA, MPEG-4, DivX, and the picture format JPEG for slideshows.Comes with a one year guarantee.

"Don't put is on top of anything else", I was told - hands up who keeps their Audio/Visual equipment stacked up in a cabinet? Overheating is just not the kind of problem one expects.
The unit plays MP3s, apparently. This seems like a great feature until you realise it doesn't read CDR's - are we supposed to be buying MP3s in the shops or something now? What a useless feature.
The laser itself doesn't seem to be up to much - it struggled with DVDs with even the slightest scratches on which my LG 3200E had no problems with.
Maybe I expect too much from a player? I just wanted it to work. I'm not really that bothered about picture quality and sound, and all cues to Samsung on providing very high picture quality on a unit this cheap. The sound was also quite good.

Not a particularly impressive player in my opinion. Maybe I'd think differently if there weren't excellent players like the LG3200E around to compare it with. I really wouldn't recommend this player even if you're planning to keep it well away from your other AV equipment. The LG offers so much more, and excellent sound to boot. Anybody who has had no problems with their 511's feel free to comment on this opinion.
Advantages: Good quality for the price Disadvantages: No SCART lead included
The Samsung DVD-511 is a prime example of a high quality DVD player at an affordable price. For around £140 - £150 you would have to look quite hard to find better quality for the price.
Picture Quality – The DVD-511 gives an excellent quality picture reproduction, the images are clear and it uses MPEG-2 compression (whatever that is!). When you choose freeze frame the image is crystal clear and does not flicker or jump around like some of ... ...guarantees that the sound quality is good, if you want the real benefit of this then don’t use your TV speakers, use the ones on your stereo system instead.
Other Features – The system can play DVDs, Video CDs and standard CDs. There is a parental control feature that allows an adult to prevent young children from viewing movies with a high film classification. The DVD-511 has a slow motion option and other nifty features such as the ...

...perfer them. No blame to Samsung for their devices but surely even they have noticed the poor quality and block effect - for all those who own one and disagree, just pause it on an explosion - so why have they done nothing about it?

Advantages: Excellent budget multi-region dvd player Disadvantages: Nought
I bought this dvd player around 1 year ago, for £85, from Asda belive it or not! Got it with a free 3-year warranty but as yet haven't had 1 single problem with this player. Its supplied with a 3-phono analogue connector lead which, while adequate, can be improved upon with scart lead connection and digital audio connection from the player to a dolby reciever for full sorround sound. The player is of good quality with all the required ports for full ... ...during playback is outstanding with practically no noticeable jump or pause in play, much better than players I've used that are 3 times the price. The remote provides a number of basic features, including zoom, digest (displays all chapters in small windows on the screen) as well as all the usual menu, mode, sound and picture controls. It also has 2 interesting features called s.fit (which is meant to fit widescreen dvds to non-widescreen but I ...

Advantages: cheap as chips :D Disadvantages: a bit too cheap
What can 100 pounds get you in dvd terms? Not much unless you want some brandless pile of rubbish. Do YOU want a mico or whatever dvd player? No, thought not!
I got my m 105 new for £100 about a year ago, and even now, I am happy with my purchase.
The actual unit is moderatly stylish, a bit plasticy on the buttons, but silver is quite a nice colour in my opinions (which this is hehe). The remote contole is a bit average, it looks good but the buttons ... ...are not well placed in my opinion.
The unit is easy to use, everything is simply laid out for you, but I found the menus to be clunky and silly at times. It has all the functions of most dvd players, zoom, slow motion, rgb out put etc. I'll say this now, as wiht most dvd players, watch it through some decent cables and your in heaven, hook it up to a 14" rf tele, and your in hell. If your gonna watch dvds on a 14", stick too your vcr!
Picture quality ...

Here you have the SamsungDVD-HD860. I can find pretty much only good things about this beauty- and yes physically beauty. It looks brilliant.
I currently have this set up to my TV in the living room with a home cinema system attached. Setting it up was very easy. Plug the cable into TV, and then just attach speakers from the home cinema system into the back. For 5.1 surround sound it took around 10 minutes. The instruction where very easy to follow.

this has to be my best DVD player i have ever bought in my life! it has everything i need, massive 320 GB memory for all my recording needs i can record hours and hours of TV shows that i would hate to miss but i can record and a touch of a button.
I love the way the DVD player is so simple to use and can be worked with ease (not like my grandmas DVD player, i'm going to smash that thing up ) all the buttons are clearly laid out and easy to see. i love the way you can put the DVD straight in and it's so simple to get it started up and playing.
the DVD player has a sleek design that looks good in any modern house.
i would definitely recommend this to anyone who would like a good DVD player and is always out at work missing there favorite TV shows and would like to watch them another time.

Advantages: None - won't accept ANY brand of DVD RW so totally useless Disadvantages: See above
DO NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!! My advice would be if you have or been given one for Xmas - take it the hell back and get a refund or exchange it for a NON SamsungDVD recorder. Samsung should be prosecuted for selling what is obviously a faulty machine! Plenty of reviews online ALL saying the same thing - it will NOT accept DVD-RW. So, not fit for purpose. Samsung will probably blame the consumer, as always. Well, FOUR brands of HIGH QUALITY BRAND NAMES, cleaning the lensas suggested on some sites DOES NOT WORK! Seriously, you will regret the day you bought one of these pieces of crap! I've spent more money on finding out WHICH brand plays - as the manual is utterly useless when it says 'some brands may not work' but DOESN'T tell you which do! HELLO, are there ANY people with brain cells employed at this company???! No, poor ...
