I recently purchased a Samsung Digimax 301 for the bargain price of £75 including an SD card, and WHAT A FLIPPIN BARGAIN!!
The 3 million pixels really do provide excellent picture quality and the LCD screen is compact yet large enough to fulfil it's functions and the information it displays is simple to understand. It has a built in memory of 16MB
Ease of Use
In a Nutshell - Simple, if I can work out how to use it anyone can. The main functions are controlled by a mode dial, there are 6 modes which can be chosen:
Still image mode
MySet Mode - this allows you to save settings for future use
Voice Recording mode
Movie clip mode - the allowed depends on amount of memory available
Photo frame mode - allows you to add borders to your images and save it
Night scene mode - just as it says on the tin ideal for nighttime pics or when the subject is against a dark background.
What's in the box?
Well apart obviously from the camera!!, you get a set of batteries (but buy an extra pair coz they don't last long), pouch, USB cable, Video Cable, software CD and a strap
Once you've mastered these it's time to get shooting, the camera also comes with a manual zoom facility (x3) and a 'wide mode' both of which are very handy as it means you haven't got to keep walking to or from your subject to get the ideal picture size
The on-screen menu is simplicity itself no fiddling around trying to delete any crappy (or embarrasing) pics just press the delete button, confirm and hey presto the image is gone.
You can choose from 4 different pic sizes 2048 x 1536, 1600 x 1200, 1024 x 768 & 640 x 480.
The manual is simple to understand and informative and loading the images to a PC is easy (once you've loaded the software from the CD provided).
In my opinion this is an ideal first Digital Camera for anyone and I would heartily recommend it. The only drawback is the battery drain (but don't all Digital Camera's eat batteries like Gazza muches Kebabs!) what I would suggest is that you purchase a set of rechargeable batteries either that or buy shares in Duracell!!!
