Ok I am now going to go into unexplored territory today by telling you all about the digital camera I have use of. It is not mine, it is my boyfriend’s camera and he got it for Christmas two Christmases ago. I use it quite a lot so feel I am able to comment on it. The model in question is the Samsung Digimax 50 Duo camera.
What is it?
It is a fairly simple digital camera which is so easy to work. It is also a lovely compact size being only 3.6x2.6x1.4 inches and weighing only 4.2oz.4 so it is easy to carry around with you. It can also be used as a low resolution webcam with 12 images per minute. However I have never used it for this purpose so can not comment on this. I would think the reason why it was chosen was because of Samsung being a reputable brand in the field of cameras.
What does it come with?
It comes with a carry case and software to download your pictures from the camera,
Taking the picture Yes it is very easy to use. You just need to turn it on and click away. There is a flash but unfortunately there is no zoom lens. You have to get quite close to the subject to get a decent picture? Unfortunately it does not have the LCD screen that some more deluxe models have so you can not check the picture you have just taken. You have to wait until you download the camera to see your pictures. However this is actually a plus as it saves on batteries. Richard’s digital camera is so much more economical on batteries compared to his father’s one which has the screen. The batteries on this camera seem to last forever. I think Richard has changed them about twice in the time he has had it. It uses two AA batteries
The Memory/
Another downside of this camera is that it has a fixed memory capacity and you can not add a memory card. The number of photos taken depends on the resolution of the photos. There are two resolution settings. I know Richard tool about 80 photos when he was in America but I am not sure what setting it is on. I do know at the moment the camera has 50 photos so that it much better than having to mess around with films in a normal camera. The picture quality.
The pictures are not bad. The pixel ratio for this camera is 640 x480
The software
The software for this camera comes on a CD ROM and is fairly easy to install. The only problem with it is it always installs example images that are annoying to delete. It is easy to download the camera and transfer the files that come in Jpeg format.
I have not commented on price and where available as it was a Christmas present. I did do a little bit of research and it seems this model might be hard to find but you might be able to get it on eBay.
This camera is a brilliant camera for beginners but it seems hard to find. I have researched online but have found none of these cameras in stock. Its plus points are its ease of use and the battery lifespan however the downside of it is there is no memory card and no colour screen.

Sounds a bit basic without a screen for viewing, but good as a holiday camera.

I agree that having no screen lengthens battery life! I have a newer Samsung with a screen and although I love it, it eats through batteries! We invested in some rechargeable ones! Great op. Tamsin xx
