The Digimax 800 was bundled with my new PC so I didn't reckon it much to start with.
Using it for the first time on holiday in Thailand I was really surprised by the ease with which it took pictures in some really varied situations and, when I downloaded onto the hotel computer I was mostly impressed with the quality of the images.
OK, so the sharpness leaves a bit to be desired and, sometimes, the focus isn't quite right (probably down to my own ineptitude in using the autofocus which depends on the old 'hold the button half down' method) but, all in all I got over 60 images (on the 8mg chip)that were good enough for viewing on the PC and for emailing friends.
The Digimax is, probaly, about the cheapest digital on the market with any resolution and I think that it makes an ideal introduction to the digital 'scene' without too much outlay. Do buy a spare flash card as the one supplied with the camera only holds about 20 images.
