The manual is very well set out, with a ... ...really impressed was the 'macro' function, used for taking pics of things VERY close. The detail captured was excellent far better than i expected.
So while the camera may not have the rep of sony's powerhouses the Samsung is an excellent piece of kit for the money. ... more
I decided to make the move to a 'digi-cam' about 4 months ago after yet another load of 35mm pics were butchered by my last camera. The pup's growin and the missus wants her pics ;-)
After shopping around, reading reviews etc. I narrowed it down to either a Sony cybershot 7.0, or the Samsung A6.

Took it home, out of the box, inserted batteries.... Took a few good pics... read manual... took better pics.
The manual is very well set out, with a few hints for us amateurs. 120 pages of instructions, and descriptions of the features (not the same 5 pages repeated in every language/dialect on this earth).
Picture quality is excellent, i am no expert but i could not fault it day or night, the camera has a 3x Optical zoom + 4 x digital zoom (which works very well for digital).
The camera has 32Mb internal memory (good for about 17 pics at top quality) and an SD card slot upto 512Mb (good for 124 to pics).
The dial on the top of the camera is used to choose between some of the preset modes of the camera (Auto, Scene, Prog, Apature/Shutter priority, Manual, Video, Audio and Night mode)
Auto is pretty much the only setting you need to take good pics + when you half press the 'take picture' button the LCD displays a green square if all appears ok, or will give a symbol of something to check (low light, unsteady hand etc.). This can avoind missing some good shots. The video mode is also handy although on top quality your lucky to fit 15 mins on a 512mb card.
The LCS display is sharp + clear, accessing stored images is a breeze with a thumbnail page option for quick browsing. The menu is easily accessible and self explanatory.

We were looking for a camera to enable us to take pictures of current stock for our website, Of our son and of our travels. Therefore we required something that was easy to use ( my partner being not having a good grasp of technology BLESS)! Lightweight and not bulky something I can have in my pocket without looking too pleased to see ya ! I was always one for sony products and we were aiming to get a cybershot but decided that with our price range ... ...it had £50 of at the time. Picture quality is great as you would expect from a 6.0 camera and an A3 picture of our son at test was still very clear with a small loss of quality ( but hey its A3 size what do you expect ) ! The various settings allow you to customise your everyshot from extreme close ups to snow / beach / night / moving and more so your picture looks as great as it does in real life. Self timer function works great as does the voice ...

A nice tidy camera with a lot of pixels,allowing good size enlargements.I am not an expert but the range of modes and features seems adequate.Being used to larger 35mm slrs, i found it "fiddly to handle but repeated use will probably solve that problem.As a "pocket" camera i found that the camera seemed a little bulky.To a non-expert the pictures look adequate and to some extent can be manipulated on the camera.The built-in flash is useful .The camera ... ...on battery life.I transfer the pictures to my pc via a card-reader which helps the battery life.You will appreciate that this is a non-technical review.Overall, as a non-expert i find the A6 to be great for snapping but you would need something more for any moderately serious work.As always, do research the price before buying. ...

...tripod) I like the way samsung have changed the tripod screw in bit from plastic (on my old 3 million pixel samsung) for a metel screw in piece this is a lot stronger for heavy handed people like myself - I find useing 2 aa size batteries rechargable at 2100 mah gives me over a hundred photo's easily even with the back picture screen on and at the price (got mine reduced at argos) is a lot of camera for the money, I had my last camera for 2 years ...

The A6 cameras come with very advanced features, but at a very affordable price. In addition to the true digital still picture color and sharpness you'd expect from this camera's 6 mega pixel image sensor, you also have a built-in Power Movie Clip function that lets you choose between 30 or 15 frames per second. And, it's easy to double check your recently shot video with highly convenient pause, fast forward and/or rewind right in the camera. The A6's shutter button toggles between capture and playback modes, a great innovation for instant review of the pic you just took. Another one touch button allows you to take charge with manual, aperture priority and shutter priority modes. Speaking of convenience: there's even a built in mirror, so you can see how you look when you take your own picture! Select from six different image sizes from 640 x 480 pixels to 2816 x 2112 pixels and from three resolution ranges - superfine, fine and normal for 18 different resolution / size combinations - a useful memory management tool. For example, you can take a postage stamp size picture from only 4cm away in high resolution for wonderful color printing output, or a large, but lower resolution landscape picture for full-screen sharing without choking friends' eMail.
