I bought the S700 from Argos in December. It was included in the sales at £69.99. That is an excellent price for the best digital camera I have used. I never liked Samsung as a brand, but after using this, I would buy from Samsung again.
The screen is very clear, and large,as it is a 2.5 inch TFT active matrixLCD. and the menu system is very intuative. Everything is point and click for beginners with some well though out camera modes, and it is nitty-gritty for more experienced photographers.
There is a macro mode that works from 2cm away from the subject. The optical zoom has a slider on screen with a line where optical switches to digital zoom. I always stay with optical zoom, as I do not want noise introduced by the digital zoom. Manufacturers: Leave digital zoom out of it please.
There is 6 ISO ratings and the f-stops and aperture opening times are adjustable. Impressive for a compact camera, especially at that price. White balance is also fully adjustable. It is a pity though that nearly everyone who buys a camera like this, sticks it on auto and clicks away :(
It did not come with any extra memory and the 20MB included will not allow for many pictures at 7.2mp, in fact 5, 5 pics.... However, memory expansion is catered for with the inclusion of an SD card slot. Therefore, I inserted a spare 1GB card, and have room for around 750 shots. Nice.
The manual however, was useless. It told you where to insert the batteries, (2 AA by the way), and where the SD card goes. After that, it showed the buttons for taking a picture, macro mode, flash settings and self timer. On auto modes, the light and aperture menus are not accessible. This is fine for the manual, but it only showed how to get into manual mode, it did not give an explaination of the different modes and effects the settings would produce. The user was expected to know these.
Picture quality is totally amazing at 7.2 fine mode. I will put some pictures on a sharing site soon, however, since I bought the camera, we have had dismal weather in Belfast, I got one day with sunshine, and have a few good shots from that day.
I would thoroughly recommend this camera to beginners as well as experienced photographers.

They're good to get to grips with the basics of taking photos with manual settings but if you're out taking photos it's a bit annoying sometimes having to alter and experiment with the settings until you find a combination you're happy with just for the sake of being able to alter some settings that they won't let you touch in auto. I know auto should be just that, automatic, but would be nice had they let you chose which options to autonomise.
Since I did my review on here a week or so ago i've found a few more things I wish i'd mentioned but I agree still that it's a good camera for the price, even if 7mp doesn't really look any difference to pics taken at 6 or even 5, they just take up more room on the SD card and are impossibly large to view on any monitor.
Anyway, good review.
