If I remember correctly of all the cameras that I have reviewed here, this possibly is the cheapest so far. In fact the main idea was to have a first hand experience of Samsung range of cameras and I thought it prudent to try the cheapest possible available in Samsung array of cameras. Well the experience is very close to disaster.
Design:
Probably its only positive point is its price, that probably is about all. If you look at the design it does look cheap, drab and dumb to say the least. In fact the ES55 looks just that better with its very quaggy aluminium casing, this one comes with a forlorn drab plastic wrapping which probably will make the least fashionables talk about fashion.
Lets have a look at the technical specs of the Samsung ES15:
Face detection, auto red-eye removal, a voice recorder, 12 scene modes, a slideshow function
VGA movie mode and a new automatic tool called Beauty Shot.
Dimension: 94.1x62.7x25.2 mm
Digital Image Stabilization
Advance Movie Mode
Color choices: Candy Pink, Silver, White and Dark Grey, Black.
Performance:I would definitely say its performance overrides its drab looks. The images were pretty sharp with adequate detail at difficult areas, although image quality could have been definitely better but the shots are decent at certain lighting if you keep in mind the ISO setting to be kept under 400. But it must be underlined that the Samsung ES15 is meant for casual snappers.
Menu & Controls:
The menu layout control interface is the 4-way control pad which were quite responsive. Although the menus are well labeled, it has to be gotten used to and some features require frustrating and annoying searches. The inclusion of RGB mode in the menu is welcome. The Beauty Shot tool should give some joy to the casual snappers. Its got a decent slideshow option with music and transition effects.
Batteries:
One of the heartening features are the batteries replacing ES55’s li-ion with more easily available alkaline AA cells. The battery life, therefore, shouldn’t be a source of worry. Although it makes ES15 a whole lot bulkier than the ES 55.
Keeping the cost factor mind, it’s a decent buy for the casuals. You get a digital camera to say the least at £79. That was the price ways back in April this year, last I heard was around £60.
