I read alot and have seen plenty of TV and film so expect lots of reviews on these. I handle a fair amount of technology too but not always brand new.

This is a perfect camera for anyone. Its easy to use, has great auto focus and unlike a lot of other cameras, when you zoom it actually puts objects into focus. There are loads of different setting for this camera. There's one for landscape images, portraits, beauty shots, and there is even one titled children. This option is great if you have kids, because you are able to take a picture of them while they are moving around and the picture will be in focus rather than blurry. There are also settings to change the tones of image, for example you can have the classic black and white image. The battery life seems to be good for this camera. I have had it a little more than a week , and took plenty of photographs with it and the battery bar hasn't even decreased. You can also program the settings yourself, which gives a little bit of the feel that a Digital SLR would have. A downside to this camera is that it requires 2 AA batteries, but the manual recommends that you use rechargeable batteries. Either way the battery life for the camera is satisfactory. Just remember to keep some spares for when it does run out. The camera also needs a memory card, as the camera has very little internal memory.
In my opinion this is one of the best digital cameras that I experienced and I would definitely recommend it.
