I bought this camera as a cheap third camera to carry around all the time. With this review, I compared the samsung to another compact I have, the casio exilim Z750, note this is an older 7.2 megapixel camera. For serious stuff I use my Nikon DSLRs.

On the whole, very average quality outdoors and the camera doesn't handle differences with light and dark too well, e.g. very bright sun and dark shadow. In this case, the camera overexposes and produces unbalanced pictures. It does this even in normal light conditions. The colours are also washed out. Not impressed. After a few weeks of ownership and comparison with the casio, it definitely has poor quality. To be fair though, the casio compact whilst older was a lot more expensive.

The menus are intuitive and easy to use and there is even a manual mode which is probably more of a marketing feature. Plus it has some face recognition which means it'll track and stay focused on a face, sounds cool but is I think uneccessary.
The on-off button is a hard to operate and if you have big fingers you'll probably wonder if the camera is indeed on. The camera can be charged from a charger or a USB cable which is a nice feature. However the USB socket access is fiddly.
Build quality
It's light and feels a bit plasticy, the and SD card access doesn't feel very robust. It's probably best to get the pictures off using the USB cable rather than by taking the card out.
Video quality
Video quality is less pixelly than the casio but for that you can definitely see some digital smoothing going on. Visual quality is generallly good though. A real downer however is the very poor audio. Other reviews have pointed this out and they are right, the sound is almost too quiet to be usable on your recorded videos. Basically, that kills video for me.
Conclusion
I wanted a cheap general purpose camera and generally for the money guess I can't complain. Picture quality is ok in good conditions, but extremes of light and darkness will throw it. Video quality is ok, but sound is poor. I suggest you look at other cameras or if you buy this one, get it online and unpackit carefully
