I purchased an Xbox 360 on launch day and duly set it up on my standard definition TV, although the graphics were impressive in the back of my mind I knew there was more on offer. This bothered me for about a week, until I ordered the new TV.
I researched the connectivity of all the 26" LCD's and found that the comparable Philips model didn't have component inputs which the 360 needs to display in high definition. This means that you need to purchase an additional cable to go from the Xbox to the Philips TV, so beware if your in the same boat.
Luckily the Samsung 26" does have the required component inputs which is ultimately why I chose it.
The TV itself is well made and the design is also quite refreshing. Due to todays TV's mainly being made in Silver, the piano black gloss frame of the Samsung looks really nice, set off by the silver triangular speaker housing at the bottom of the set.
The connectivity options of the TV are excellent, it has TWO scart sockets, HDMI, Component Input, VGA and standard RF aerial Input with separate RCA audio inputs for each.
The picture quality is excellent to say the least in standard definition, when viewing high definition media it is mind blowing. The colour reproduction is excellent and blacks are true black, unlike other LCD sets I've seen. The screen shows no sign of ghosting when viewing high speed video.
The set also has TRU surround which to be honest doesn't replace proper surround sound. The sound quality is brilliant, and is loud enough for all applications.
I paid £670 for the TV and I'm really happy with it. I've also since learned that Samsung manufacture the LCD panels for Bang & Olufsen which cost a hell of a lot more.
