But its not, its just a printer. This is my work printer and you get an idea of how bored I can get at work when I would rather write a review on a printer. Anyway this is the Samsung ML1450 printer. It looks good, its dimeansions are 14.3" by 16.1" by 11.6" and it weighs in at a pretty light 27.3lbs. It is off-white and of a fairly standard printery design. On the front panel there are 4 lights (Error, manual, paper and data) and 3 buttons (Cancel/reprint/Toner), so is quite simple and doesnt require a Phd to use.
Pros:
The print quality is very good. Although it is only in monochrome (or as I call it Black) the max resolution is 1200dpi x 1200dpi, which apparently is pretty good. There is never any smudging and all in all it is a more or less idential reproduction of what is on my screen
Paper capacity is large. There is a main tray which holds 550 sheets plus an auxilliary tray holding an extra 100 sheets. We have also added another main tray which again holds 550 sheets. So in total we can print 1200 sheets before having to add paper, thats a hell of a lot!
As mentioned above this is really a simple machine to use, unlike other printers where there are endless flashing lights, different buttons, and bleeping alarms this is straight forward press and print technology. Nevertheless there are some original and helpful featurees included, primarily the reprint button, which when pressed will re-print the last document sent. Now this can be a security issue but if as in our case it is a printer between two working on the same project its no problem.
Efficiency. I have used this machine for the last twomonths, and I reckon daily it must print out around 800-900 sheets. In that time there has been one paper-jam and that was due to using paper that had already been through the printer.
Speed. Apparenty this printer should handle arounf 15 sheets per minute, but I reckon it is more like 11 a minute, still quick enough though.
Cons
When the paperjam did occur the screen instructions as to how to deal with it were useless. I.e paperjam, open top lid. Now thats fine when the jam is under the top lid but not so good when right at the back. However fortunately this is a very simple machine and there are only three places to check for a jam.
Price, around £180, I reckon very good value for a machine that gives quality and efficiency
Good review! I have one of these for the home! I've never had a paper jam, but provides an excellent quality. Shame about it being monochrome, but i got mine for about £110 or something, and got a free fax machine with it!
