I had two inkjets that I didn't use that much, simply because each time I wanted a page it required several cleaning cycles before I could get a decent print. The answer? a Cheap laser printer. the good news is that they are now as affordable as inkjets. Although the cartridges are expensive to replace the cost per print is a fraction of using an inkjet printer, a lot quicker and far less noisy.
Although the resolution is low on this model I would defy anyone to look at a print from this and a high end laser and tell me which was which.
I work from home as a field engineer, I check my Email in the morning, print off the jobs and, for areas that I don't know, a page or two from Streetmap, then set off to work.
The size of the unit was important to me, my home office is a little 'compact' . it is approximately 14"x14" so there are no problems there.
Website support is excellent. As always, I didn't bother with the installation CD that came with it, I used the later version from the site which was easy to find and downloaded without any problem.
All in all this is a great little printer which, as they say, does exactly what it says on the tin. At the moment it is attached to a USB printer server on my home router, so that it can be used from any PC in the house.
This means that ti is used with Windows 98SE, Windows 2000, Windows XP Home, Windows XP Professional and Linux Red Hat.
I'm not sure about the resolution, it looks OK to me and I'm quite fussy. I believe that the actual specs are unimportant. the most important thing is performance and with that I am well pleased. It will take about half a pack of A4 copy paper at a time, it would be nice if you could put in a whole pack, as this would obviate the need to store the other half, but that is really the only little niggle and it isn't much of one.
