We have been after a small mono laser printer for a while and once we had bought the laptop computer we wanted a printer that was a bit more portable and easy to use. My husband is a self-employed courier and he prints his invoices out each week and we also need to print out his accounts and vat returns each quarter. Also we print flyers and needed a laser printer because of ink smudging on the ink-jet.

COST +++++
I purchased mine from Ebuyer for £48.99 to include VAT (it is 41.69 net).
This is about average price, although I have seen them on sale for £75-£80 in some places. P C World has it for £49.99 store collection only.
Ebuyer delivery was £3.83 for Super Saver which took a week, so the total cost to me was £52.82. (Next day delivery would have cost £7.89). I was happy to pay less and wait for it. Delivery was by Citylink.
I also had to buy the USB cable to connect it to my laptop, this cost 79p from Ebuyer and this was by far the cheapest I had seen.
Toner cartridge from Ebuyer £30.07 .
INSTALLATION AND USE +++++++++++++++++++++
I had the printer delivered to my office as I am out all day. Ebuyer do not allow this, but I left a note on my door for Citylink and the driver took it to my firms other office near my home. When I went to collect it the printer was easy for me to carry, so the weight is good.
I took it home, removed the packaging, usual polysterene and tape.
I installed the printer cartridge, which was very easy, You open the front cover and it just pushes into the front until you hear it click.
Then I installed the paper, I had to pull out the tray at the bottom front of the machine and put the paper into the tray being careful to push it under the guides.
Next, plug it in and switch it on at the wall, also there is a switch on the printer itself. Then connect to my laptop with the USB Cable. The laptop registers immediately that there is new software attached and asks for the installation cd to be put into the cd drive. A few clicks and the printer is installed. I installed the drivers and a printer monitor. It asks do I want to print a test page, yes I say and out it comes!
The printer then asks if you want to register it online, so I said yes and was whisked off to Samsung's website where I registered the purchase in order to obtain the warrantee.
Simple to install and use.
MY PERSONAL OPINION ++++++++++++++++++++
The machine is neat and very easy to use, however don't be fooled by the picture shown above, it will take up more space than that because of the paper sticking out of the front. Around half of the A4 paper tray sticks out the front of the machine. If you wanted to store it as shown in the picture then you would need to take the paper out after each use. See my picture at the bottom for a true idea. It looks more like the old HP Deskjet printers then!
I found it really easy to install, very quick with no problems. The printing speed is quick, certainly good enough for a small business with low printing needs.
The toner cartridges are nearly as dear as the printer, but 2000 pages would last us a long time, so we would only need one cartridge a year, if that.
I have also read that you can refill the toner cartridge for £10-£18 so I might give this a try when the first toner runs out.
I have read on a website that the printer is estimated to last around 50,000 pages, so in total each page would cost less than 2p per printed page which is good value.
The toner save function is useful and has an indicator on the top of the machine to show this is working.
I would recommend this printer to anybody who has need for a laser printer. I wouldn't recommend it for high business use, but for small business/personl use it would be ideal.
DONT FORGET to buy a USB cable as it doesn't come with one!
Advantages: Simple, Great value for money Disadvantages: Front flap, Curling pages
...maneouvre around! I threw the instruction manual away pretty quickly, seemed like they were trying to overcomplicate a simplistic printer! Samsung are always willing to support, sometimes maybe too much! I would recommend this printer to anyone wishing to print many, or few, worded documents in mono-chrome! ...

Advantages: Small footprint, nice design, cheap Disadvantages: Only 2MB RAM (non-upgradable), USB cable not included
...printers and came upon the Samsung ML-1610 mono laserjet. At present, Samsung is giving a rebate promotion for the ML-1610 here in Malaysia. I bought it for only RM299 (equivalent to GBP£47).
Since I work at home and space is at a premium, I didn't want a bulky printer on my desk. The Samsung is very petite but the build quality is good. It even comes with a protective paper tray to keep out dust. Setup was very quick and straightforward, just unpack ... ...tad light, but you can adjust to make it darker in the printer settings. Graphics appear to have some banding, but I don't print a lot of pictures.
Overall, the Samsung is a very good budget laserjet printer. I have no regrets plonking down my hard-earned money for it. ...

Advantages: Cheap (around £50); incredibly easy to setup and install Disadvantages: External paper tray
It's very easy to set up, as instructions consist of a no-nonsense page of easy-to-follow diagrams. As always, the USB cable is NOT included, so make sure you own one.
Other benefits include a toner save button, ideal if you want to print out drafts of work.
The one disappointment i had, was that the paper tray is not internal, as is usual for laser printers. Instead, the flap at the front folds out to store your paper on and a cheap-looking plastic ...

Advantages: Very Cheap for a laser printer. Toner Save Function. Disadvantages: Slow response time. No Printer USB Cable.
I purchased the the Samsung ML-1610 between 2 and 3 years ago and paid £99.00 which I thought was excellent value for a laser printer. It was the cheapest laser printer onthe market at thetime and I'll admit I wasn't expecting it to be a great printer. I was intending to replace it once I had the money to get a better quality one.
Looks-wise the Samsung ML-1610 laser printer is a great looking printer. It is quite compact and been well designed ... ...still being used with most of Samsung's current printers. The printer prints with reasonable quality. It takes quite some time to start up before it prints (this is when it is heating up to almost melt the toner to the page which is why pages come out of a laser printer warm), but when it starts printing, it can print off several full pages of text very quickly. The printer can now be picked up for just £50, best place I've found to buy: e-bay. At ...

cannot be networked. When new (in 2001) it cost around £200 - a similar model (SamsungML1610) now be bought for around £80 - except that the price of the cartridge is steeper now! The output of the ML1610 is quoted as the same quality and its speed is faster - 16ppm.
The ML6040 has been superseded by newer technology, but if you can get hold of a cheap model second hand, it is still worth considering. Good quality printing at a low price.
When researching this I found out a little known fact - that laser printers produce ozone, which is toxic at high concentrations. Apparently, Kyocera have taken this seriously and worked to make their models give out so little ozone it hardly matters. Other manufacturers still havent got their act together and ozone emission figures are apparently hard to come by. ...

the quality of my print outputs. College charges 5p per page for printing! So I can thoroughly recommend this to any science / engineering students who has a high workload! Good going away present from a relative perhaps?!!
I spent a long time choosing which printer to buy... I set myself a budget of £120 pounds.
****** ADVANTAGES OVER SIMILAR PRICE PRINTERS ******
I considered the following other printers;
SAMSUNGML1610
BROTHER HL 2030
HP 1020
HP 1022
The most important factor in my choice was the cost per page. Most of the other lasers in this price range are fairly low capacity with toners only lasting 2500 pages. The Samsung 2250 meanwhile toner is supposed to last up to 5000 pages. The printer also features a toner saving button which increases this further (I have it on all the time and the quality is just as good ...
Advantages: V. cheap (but I expect better for the price) Disadvantages: Doesn't suck paper in (when it does, doesn't properly)
- but pretty rubbish.
Manufacturer Support:
Haven't used.
Value For Money:
Poor, go and get a bargain laser like the SamsungML-1610, lasts longer on ink, faster, more reliable, toner refill for £7 and lasts several years. When belt e.t.c. die, bin and get another bargain laser.
Software/drivers:
Bulky load of rubbish. Bloatware designed to stab a fast PC to a grinding halt.
This wasn't just a one-off, after a month we exchanged it for another as we found it so bad. We tried newer cartridges (thought heads on short life demo cartridges weren't up to it) but It's all of them (a friend who got one found it te same). I very nearly went up to some people in Currys (not that I'd ever buy anything from there) who were about to buy one and tell them not to.
Pay some more money and get an HP or Epson. Lexmark make ...
