I decided to upgrade to a laserjet because I was fed up of buying inks for my old Epson inkjet. I did a Google search for budget printers and came upon the Samsung ML-1610 mono laserjet. At present, Samsung is giving a rebate promotion for the ML-1610 here in Malaysia. I bought it for only RM299 (equivalent to GBP£47).
Since I work at home and space is at a premium, I didn't want a bulky printer on my desk. The Samsung is very petite but the build quality is good. It even comes with a protective paper tray to keep out dust. Setup was very quick and straightforward, just unpack the printer and push the supplied toner cartridge in until it snaps into place. The toner cartridge supplied is a starter cartridge which is supposed to last for about 1,000 pages. The normal standard cartridge (which you have to buy separately) is expected to last for 2,000 pages.
The ML-1610 prints very much faster than an inkjet, around 16 ppm. The noise level is also low (except for a few seconds when you turn it on) and I was pleasantly surprised that there was hardly any unpleasant ozone smell.
Text quality is excellent, although a tad light, but you can adjust to make it darker in the printer settings. Graphics appear to have some banding, but I don't print a lot of pictures.
Overall, the Samsung is a very good budget laserjet printer. I have no regrets plonking down my hard-earned money for it.
How helpful would this review be to a person making a buying decision? Rating guidelines
Have re-rated for you but I am afraid it is still just 'helpful'. That's not a bad rating at all, so don't worry about it. You really need to read a few other reviews, that are 'very helpful' or 'exceptional' and then you'll see what you need to put. Again, I'm happy to re-rate. God luck on ciao. Scarlett x
