With the netbook market already saturated to the point of that resembling a cat's fur when thrown into a bath (with almost as much fur flying between the competitors), it would seem that we don't need yet another standard netbook joining the ranks. However the samsung NC10 has proven to be a great addition to the market, and managed to undercut nearly all of their major competitors, even if it can't beat the acer aspire one.
The NC10 is the usual netbook affair with regards to specs, it is fitted with the defacto standard intel atom, 160GB HDD and 1GB memory, this provides decent performance for all your web application needs and some circa 1999 gaming (no-one buys one for gaming anyway, but you've always got to at least try). It really isn't anything special in this department, but all netbooks are pretty similar anyway. However the nc10 is very slightly nippier than some other netbooks such as the msi wind. The screen is also the standard 10.2" 1024x600 too, but it is a very good quality screen, and puts most other netbooks to shame.
The deciding factor in the netbook market is the quality of the netbook, and the samsung comes with quality to the hilt. The solid build of the netbook combined with it's spacious (by netbook standards) keyboard helps to make using such small devices less of a pain, and everything just feels right with it. the ports and connectivity are good too, with 3 USB ports, a VGA out port (for hooking up to an external monitor) and a 10/100 ethernet port.vBattery life is pretty standard, generally speaking the netbook will last 3-4 hours before dying.
overall there isn't much to criticise this netbook for, sure it could come with a SSD drive for those who like sitting in front of a netbook for ages while copying something, but i wont be missing such an omission from the lineup. Additional the speakers couldn't sound much tinnier unless they were made out of old baked bean cans, but now i'm just nitpicking, as it's the same for all netbooks (and most notebooks too).
At the £300 price point, it outshines nearly everything around, except the stellar acer aspire one, which can be had for around £100 less. Personally i think i would always pick the acer over this, but if you don't like the aspire one for some reason, this is a very worthy second choice. Recommended.
Advantages: Robust, Large Keyboard, Large Screen, Good Support. Disadvantages: 1 Memory Slot, No Mobile Broadband Sim Slot, Specific keyboard key in unusual place.
