this message on my old HP Envy was what sparked me to think, 'crap, new laptop needed here'.
I am currently studying for my A-Levels, so my laptop plays a BIG part in my studies, holding all of my work, and being a source for information gathering (using the internet), and I can't afford for my laptop to break on me.
After sifting through the HUNDREDS of models on offer at a reasonable price, I decided I would follow the Netbook route. Netbooks, being smaller and more lightweight than their laptop cousins, seem to be the way forward. The one that really caught my eye was the Samsung NC10.
For ages, I wanted the really sleek and stylish NC10, in white, however after seeing one in real life, in comparison to the Black model (the one i eventually settled for), it didnt seem to look as nice.
Despite the smaller size, i dont feel that I am missing any functions or features of my old Envy. I have
a near to full size keyboard, a decent sized 10.2" screen (which is not as small as it appears to be once you are used to it), and a full Windows XP home proffessional package already installed, set up and ready to go! Another impressive feature is the WHOPPING 9 hour battery life!!! INSANE!
SO, Pay day comes, and I go to town, to pick up my Samsung NC10, in gloss black. Being someone who is always after a bargain, I also eventually managed to talk a 3 Mobile USB dongle and an 8GB memory stick into the deal, at no extra cost, all for the price of £329.99, very reasonable considering my now failed HP Envy had cost virtually twice that price.
Rushing home, unboxing my lil netbook, I realised that the NC10 really IS small, so much so I initially doubted purchasing it, however this slight niggle was shortlived. Setting up took just TEN minutes, and I didnt have to do anything except follow 'Retard Proof' on screen instructions (seriously I would bet that anyone could do this). Now fully set up and running, i began to have a play around with some of the features.
The NC10 sports a very high quality 1.3mpx Digital Livecam, and a high quality microphone. These are ideal for use on msn and skype, or other such web call based services. Another function, one of many I am impressed with, is the nearly full sized, Silver Nano antibacterial keyboard! I am obsessed with cleanliness, so this function is GREAT for me! Oh, and how could I forget, the AMAZING 9 hour battery life! which yes, ladies and gentlemen, is really as good as it sounds, charges quick, lasts for AGES!
Moving on, I am not very technically minded so please, dont hate me for getting this wrong, but my understanding is that the processor inside the machine is an Intel Atom, which to my knowledge, works great (but then again, i just turn the machine on at the side, and wahey, it works!). This processor, i think, means that i can run several applications at once and not have the computer freeze up on me! It also makes the NC10 extremely light!
The Aesthetics of the product, well, hats off to Samsung. I use this at Sixth Form, and it makes people actually JEALOUS, and they are always shocked to hear how little i paid for it. Yes, the high gloss lid is a magnet for smudge marks, but if you have a thing for touching up the lid of ur NC10, then there is something wrong with you, because, well, YOU DONT NEED TO TOUCH IT! I particularly love the silver chrome line that runs around the base half of the NC10, concealing the power button, which lights up blue when on! (YES i am sad and this is probably the main reason i bought this model as opposed to any other netbook).
The screen on the NC10 is a 10.2" LED screen, WHICH is notably brighter than other screens. The clarity is amazing, however I am informed that the latest version, the N110, has a high gloss screen (as opposed to my matt look screen), which takes away a slight graininess that slightly deters the quality on SOME pictures shown.
In conclusion, well, I love this product, what more can i say, I couldn't ask for more. I've owned 2 laptops before this (an Apple Macbook, which i dropped, oops, and a HP Envy, damn thing) and the NC10 seriously out does them both, on looks, design, appeal, EVERYTHING i can think of! Just go and buy one! seriously! xxx
