I am finally giving you guys the chance to have sympathy for me-the devil-with a revelation-yes, my operating system on my PC is Windows 98! I was the only person in Britain still using it up until last week and so the main reason why the world wide web has slowed down for everyone in the U.K recently. I apologise to all. The reason why my browsing life was still in the dark ages is I had this thing about never buying computer stuff, always able to cannibalise bits from other people or pinch a bit from work, my chunky Pentium 1 testament to. When I fired it up with the handle on the back it would sound like a light plane bouncing down a grass runway before reaching for the internet with a clumsy lunge and a late growl. I also had an old Acer lap top for journalist stuff, but that had to be signed in and out of work so no evidence on the hard-drive of unscrupulous browsing thank you very much, if you know what I mean. So when my little brother (who is on great money) dragged me down PC World and said no more Win98, money is no option, so what do you want for your birthday? I quickly pointed to the lap top section. But he works in I.T and pointed at the notebook bit, in particular, this Samsung
NC10, and so here I am writing my first dooyoo review on it, all very appropriate. And I'm glad he did suggest the notebook and not the laptop as my portable browsing world has just changed dramatically; only this week sat in the garden in that gorgeous spring sunshine rating away on dooyoo. And with an impressive five hour battery life I may just be able to keep up with the torrent of new reviews on site. Not only do all those naughty videos on you tube load first time and actually play right through (come on guys you all do it!) but I can actually carry this thing around with me, weighing just 1.3 KGs. I have a feeling I'm going to exceed my internet usage in this new world. I also feel I may get arrested. lol. And its only 11" wide so the muggers don't even know you have it, what is effectively a top of the range lap top in your bag! In fact it's ideal for students in the new autumn term as they statistically are the most likely to be burgled in Britain and so instead of the easy target of the lap top in your bedroom this can be easily hidden from the criminals that target students and young people in our inner-cities.

This is an amazing bit of kit, jet black and smooth, like cracking open an oyster to find a pearl inside, screen and body snapping back together like a lady's compact for that extra mobility. The only noise on the boot up this time around is a gentle whirr like the sound of a butterfly revving up their wings for a morning fluttering. This is top of the range stuff to look at and play with, and malleable too, connectors to plug it into a full size monitor and keyboard no problem with the appropriate hot keys...printers and any other hardware having three USB ports to doc on to. Its baby size is also its most obvious draw back as it has no optical drive to load in new software or deploy the critical two supplied rescue discs for the preloaded XP. You will have to back everything up on a chunky memory stick.
As its compact and bijou the keyboard is cramped and takes some adapting, the 'cap key' annoyingly not having an LED in your eye line to tell you if it's active or not. Because a lot of that kit and power are squashed up in the 10 x 6 chest the bottom does get rather warm, so best not leave it resting on anything too flammable. You do get a nice soft carry case with it which slides on like a velvet glove on the hand of a beautiful girl. Durability wise I have yet to bang it or, God forbid, drop it and so no idea if it can survive a whack or two. I know lap tops aren't the most reliable on bumps and tumbles...
The internet browsing is amazing and pretty quick, the free 90 day McAfee anti virus protection and firewall very efficient. I achieved a good signal some 100ft away from the wireless modem and don't seem to have hang or connection issues yet. The mouse pad on these things takes some getting used to with its central lap top style location and push finger delivery, at times like trying to keep your ice skate dug into the ice at the right angle and touch to keep control of your lines and spirals. You can just whack in a USB mouse if you're used to a routine in your day job.
If, heavens forbid, you got bored of the 'net' or writing on dooyoo the spec and screen size is good enough to play games. The screen is very clear with an excellent resolution although the sound is more MW than FM. My current record on the oddly named generic Windows classic 'Free Cell' is 28 straight completions. With a Samsung NC10 Notebook in your back pocket you may well get the chance to beat my record.
