Having previously had a laptop my wife recently decided to buy a new computer for herself as she felt she was not taking her laptop with her due to size and weight and so decided to opt to pick up the Samsung NC10 netbook. So you may have noticed that this is a netbook and be wondering what this exactly means...a netbook is a smaller, lighter weight laptop that is simply designed to handle internet browsing, e-mail and office software. The question I was asked by my wife before she picked this little gadget up was would this be able to play games? The answer is yes but of a limited variety as this is not designed with the same level of specs in as a normal pc or laptop (you would also need to purchase a cd or dvd drive for if you are looking at playing games that use a cd). Now down to the actual netbook itself...the Samsung is fantastically well designed, quiet running, has a bright and vibrant screen which means that despite the smaller screen size you should not be suffering eye strain. The netbook does take some time to setup and you will need to do a few restarts but once you have done all of this the system is very impressive in its load time and also in the time taken to shut down. With its 3 usb ports it is very easy to add extras onto the netbook like your printer, a cd/dvd drive and a memory card reader it allows for a great deal of functionality and with a good size 160gb hard drive a memory card reader is something good for many to get as this allows you to quickly add your photos to you hard drive and get a look at these anywhere you go and at any time. The main reason for many users to like this is that it operates on Windows XP which is more popular with many than its replacement Windows Vista. All in all this is a fantastic little netbook with its main positives being its simplicity, light weight, small/compact, sleek looks, value for money, bright screen, good battery life, quiet running, fast boot time and shut down times. Any negatives? The netbook does not come with a cd/dvd drive but this is a good thing as if you are out and about and not going to be using one then why add that extra weight?
