This is a super little camera which I have so far really enjoyed owning. the main difference from my Nikon Coolpix is the lack of a viewfinder but the screen is so much brighter I haven't found that an issue, even out of doors, also the screen seems pretty tough, it hasn't noticeably scratched in 3 months of use, mostly outdoors. At first I found the images a little harsh to the eye overall, I now think that may be just the higher resolution although the lens is ridiculously tiny so obviously there's going to be major compromises in that department. Pictures from the Nikon (4 MP compared to 7) now look soft as old boots, but they stil have a slightly more pleasing tonality overall, perhaps unsurprising from a lens about 4 times the area of the Samsung's.
The main reason I bought this camera is the internal focusing, there is no moving lens that slides in and out as it focuses. This means you can simply place the camera against a telescope eyepiece for digiscoping. Unfortunately, the lens in this case is too close to the corner of the camera so when it's centralised on the scope eyepiece, it lets light in. Had I realised this would have carried on looking for a camera with the lens more central on the body, but even so I'm getting record shots at long distances much more easily than if I had to mess about with threaded adaptors etc.
A really, really cool thing though about this camera is that it is super-easy to record a short verbal commentary on each picture, making it absolutely perfect for natural history fieldwork or, I should think, any other information-collection hobby, stained glass, antiques, um, train spotting... It's genius - this functionality is not hidden away in menus or whatever, it's right there on the button and dead easy to access. When you get home, your verbal 'notes' tell you exactly what each picture is. You can also download MP3s and listen to them via a headphone socket; down (and up) loading is really easy because once you install the driver, the PC just treats the camera as a drive, there's no complicated 'management' software to load and learn. It warns you in the book not to just put the SD card in a card reader, but I've done that on my laptop and experienced no problems so far, fingers crossed.
As mentioned in another review, the flash is a bit rubbish, but what do you expect, it's about as big as a fly's eye. This camera also looks above-averagely cool and seems very durable with its metal case, it certainly get admiring comments and has something of the Ixus-factor about it. I'm dead pleased with it and take it everywhere. There is no case provided as standard so budget for one on top (or just use a little leather bag from a jumble sale if you're a cheapskate like me :-) )

I have owned my Samsung NV3 for well over a year now, and it still manages to impress me every time I use it. As a camera, it is amazingly user friendly, packs a bunch of great features, is highly reliable, looks superb, and is extremely good value. Oh, and its not bad at taking pictues either.
In fact, the pictures are outstanding. The NV3 finds the perfect balance feature wise; it won't overwhelm, but has plenty of depth with regards to options. ... ...to your liking, but you can also take a pre-set option, which, thanks to the 'Scene' mode, there are many of, for every occasion. It is extremely easy to use, with simple menus to help you change eveything from megapixels to shutter speed to the flash, as well as add effects and even audio. This camera is very good in terms of a point and shoot camera, it wont appeal to the more proffesional of photographer as it doesnt quite have the functionality for that. I purchased this camera after researching for many months and decided it would suit me best. The picture quality is superb for everyday use aswell well as for skiing / mountain biking. The mp3/ portable media player functionality is a bonus and very well thought out. Build quality ... ...3 months now for sceneray shoots in france to fishing trips, it produces a wonderful picture everytime. I would definitely recommend this camera to any of my friends or family as i have used several different makes and model of camera in the past. ...This particular camera sits in the middle of the NV series by Samsung, though the NV3 and NV7 are more well known then this particular model. However, I happen to think that this particular model is perhaps undeservingly overlooked.
The resolution is 7.2MP, so it can certainly match a large selection of cameras on offer in the same price bracket for quality. You can adjust that to a lower setting if you do not want to use up too much memory per photo. That said, even on a lower setting, it still produces quite respectable photos, with sharp images and colours looking realistic and clear. As for the memory, the internal memory is only 19MB, so you will need either an SD card or a MMC card - either format is supported.
