Samsung Digital Camera - quality compact camera 6 of 7 Ciao Users found the following review helpful
Rating from SweenyT 4 Stars ()

Advantages Ease of use, clarity of pictures and video, a good alrounder

Disadvantages Extremely short USB charging cable, very light - feels a bit flimsy/breakable, manual on disk

My latest Samsung is the PL200 although it actually says PL201 on the camera. I have only had the camera for 2 weeks so this review will be a basic one for now

I chose this camera because it's 14.2 megapixel and has 7x optical zoom and 5x digital zoom. It has a decent 3in sized LCD viewing screen. It comes with a rechargeable Li-on battery and a combined USB charging cable and mains plug so you can either charge directly when attached to a computer or plug in directly to the mains - a light indicates when it is charging and charged. It is slim, wallet sized, very light and the controls are simple to use. It also uses a standard sized SDHC memory card and I have used a standard SD (not High Capacity) card in it with no problems so far.

It has a smart function which more or less does the work for you eg automatically recognises the scene and sets flash, exposure etc . It also has a neat facility that focuses on the subject, centres them and apparently only takes the picture when they are smiling at the camera. I'm not sure if this 'only when smiling facility' actually works but I took it out with me on a night out and in all the pictures everyone is smiling even the covert ones. It does centre on the subject's faces by indicating them on screen with a green box however I will update on the 'smiling facility' once I have used it a bit more.

A further 'fun' facility it has is being able to 'touch up' the photos on the camera once they have been taken eg remove blemishes.

So far I have only used it at night and it takes very clear night and darkened room still pictures and clear video pictures with clear sound - the microphone is positioned in such a way that you shouldn't be able to cover it during normal use even when tipsy.

This is my second Samsung Digital Camera that I have bought over the years and I must say that I remain impressed by the ease of handling and clarity of the pictures/videos that I have taken so far. I would not go as far to say it's better than the Panasonic Lumix range but based on this model it is quite close. This pipped the Lumix for me because of the mega pixels and optical and digital zoom.

I'm perfectly sure as I can read very well. The camera was being sold as Model PL200 and comes up on the Samsung Registration website as PL200 however the model number on the actually camera states PL201 hence the comment I made in my review!
