I have had my Samsung R519 laptop for about two years now. I remember when I first looked into getting a laptop that window seven was just emerging. I thought it was better to get one with it already installed. That is one of the reasons why I choose this laptop. I brought this Samsung laptop from Argos and I am pretty sure that it was on offer for just over £300. I thought this was a pretty good price since it had the latest version of windows already installed on it.

This laptop has a built in webcam, which is at the top of the screen. Personally I do not use the web cam; however I have looked to see what it is like. It is pretty clear and the quality is ok on it. However, it could have been a little better because it is slightly blurry at times, especially if you move quickly. This laptop already has webcam related software, already installed on it. This is called Cyber Link You Cam. Basically it is a program where you can take pictures and videos of yourself. You can add special effects such as graphics, backgrounds, wordings, templates to your pictures. It is an interesting tool if you want to mess around a bit with the webcam. It is basically a photo booth.

From the moment that I set up my laptop until now I have had no problems with it. Finding programs that I need is really easy. I believe this has been helped by the search box, when you press start. For example if you want to look at your cookies, you can just type in “cookies” into the search box and it comes up with links on “blocking cookies” ect...

This laptop came with Microsoft office word version seven. It has taken me awhile to get used to using this version of Microsoft word, because it has a lot more technical features than previous versions of Microsoft word that I had used previously. After playing around with it, I eventually can say that I am confident with using this version of Microsoft word now. However, this isn’t really a fought in this laptop.

The laptop lay out is simply and has special things such as “sticky notes” in which can be placed on the screensaver. I have found these sticky notes helpful for remembering things that I need to do, because I use my laptop every day.

The sound quality on this laptop is a little tinny and defiantly not the best for listening to music or watching programs or DVD’s on. But it’s not that bad that you can’t use it; because I do occasional listen to music through my laptop without adding speakers. You just get much better sound quality when you attach speakers to this laptop. This laptop has excellent picture quality and is very clear.

This laptop responds quickly, especially when you turn it on, it takes less than 30 seconds to load. This laptop is the same when you shut it down. The only thing I would moan about would be the fact that it sometimes decides to do updates automatically when I have pressed shut down, therefore I have to wait for the updates to finish before I can close the lid otherwise the laptop will try and finish the updates when I next go to use it, which can be a pain. However, any laptop needs to do updates at some point, so I can’t really moan about this.

Restarting this laptop is really quick and easy and I don’t mind restarting this laptop straight after updates or adding new software because it is so quick. It does not seem like any hassle.

I have created a password and my own space on this laptop. You can add other people so that they can have their own password and space. However, I am the only person that uses my laptop; therefore I have not needed to create more than one user.

This laptop is useful because it has 3 USB2.0 ports not that I have actually ever used 3 at once. However, they may come in handy one day. This laptop has a 15.6 inch screen which is a good size because it is not too big or too small. The laptop actually says on the sticker “The best balanced Notebook PC with Minimalism Design”. I think it is between a notebook and an average laptop, size wise. In my experience in searching for a case for this laptop I have found that there is not that many available specifically for the size of this laptop. This suggests that the size of this laptop is not very common.

This laptop has a mouse built in to it. The mouse is touch sensitive. The mouse is easy to use and not overly sensitive. The mouse has a built in scroll bit on the right hand side of it, which can get a little stuck on the screen at times. I have personally found that using the side bar on the actual screen is much better for scrolling up or down than the mouse, because I feel like I have more control over it.

I really like the appearance of this laptop because it has a shiny look to it that looks glossy and sleek. The keyboard is black with a silver mouse and outer edgings. I think that this laptop looks pretty up to date, trend wise. The laptop has a “Samsung” logo in white/sliver colour on the front and the back. The laptop also has the version code of the Samsung laptop on it below the screen, “R519”, therefore it is easy to see what model of Samsung laptop that you have, so when you are buying accessorise for this laptop you will not have to go searching around to find the exact model.

This laptop has all the programs that you could ever want such as Word, edexcel, paint, games, voice recorder... basically what you would expect any laptop to have, plus a few extra’s.

This laptop has good memory. I am not very good with all the technical details. But it has a built in hard drive and it says that I have just about used half of the amount available on one of the local disks. It says that there is 100GB available altogether. On the other local disk I have 109GB free out of a potential 117GB. To be honest I am not sure what this entirely means. However, I have a lot of work stored on my laptop and I have never had to delete anything on purpose to be able to save something else. I think that this laptop has loads of space, especially for students.

The battery life on this laptop is pretty good for the price because you get about 3 hours before it needs recharging and you can save battery power, by opting for the “POWER SAVE” option over the “SAMSUNG OPTIMISE” which saves battery. I have found that the battery life on this laptop is just as good now, two years down the line, then it was when I first brought it. However, I never over charge my laptop and I always take the cable out as soon as it is fully charged, because I believe this helps maintain the laptops battery life with it not plugged in.

This laptop is not that very heavy and I have taken it with me to collage to do essays on. I don’t take it every day because I find it a little hassle because I feel like I can’t leave it anywhere, in case it gets taken. As a consequence I have to carry it around all day; therefore I think a notebook would be easier if you wanted a laptop to take to college or university all day.

I would recommend this laptop because it is one of the cheaper well known brand laptops available on the market. It starts up quick and has all the programs that you will ever need already loaded on it. It has a built in webcam, where you can take photos and videos. This laptop is so simple and easy to use, that my Nan decided that she would get one after she saw mine. This is my Nan’s first laptop, and she hardly ever needs to ask for help. This proves how simple it is to use.

This was my fist ever laptop and I have had a very good experience with it so far. I have had no problems and I would recommend this laptop as a good value for money laptop for people that do not want to fork out on a Dell laptop. I did consider buying a Dell laptop before I got this one, but I didn’t want to spend that much money on one.
