Imagine style. Imagine power. Imagine a touch of colour for an aura of excellence and sophistication. The latest generation of notebooks advance Samsung’s signature style with a sleek deep rose red infusion that illuminates their piano-black finish. So you can see more, hear more and do more – whenever and wherever you want.
Advantages: Powerful, great spec for price Disadvantages: Easily scratched
...Samsung may be better known for its mobile phones but it's had a wide range of notebooks for the best part of 5 years now and with the latest design refresh, the company has opted for a high-gloss finish that looks impressive and certainly feels cool to the touch.
The design is called the "Aura" design and the R70 follows in this trend but as with other machines we found the lacquered lid can easily be scratched.
So, if you're thinking of opting for this machine, you're best to invest in a slipcase to carry it around in, along with your backpack. That's the bad news out of the way, as the R70 delivers on almost every other front.
Weighing in at 2.7kg, this is a machine you may well want to carry around with you at least on semi-regular occasions. We managed to get a little over three hours on average from the battery, which is...

Advantages: Gloss LCD, Keyboard, Touchpad, CPU Speed, GPU Power Disadvantages: LCD Resoltion,no S-Video,no PCI-E slot
...I've had this machine for about 3 months now.
Starting with the bad: There's alot of sticky keying at times, that causes you to tap the key firmly before it clicks into place to drop down to form a key press..it might be because the machine is still brand new, Since the two touchpad buttons had some play between the actual plastic and (switch)button, but later recessed perfectly. There's also not s-video out or pci-e card slot, which is slightly dissapointig.A HUGE word of caution, do not open the lid at it's centre...the plastic will start to warp outwards leaving the lcd area exposed! also, do not press firmly on the back part of the lcd lid, the lcd is easily affected and you'll notice colour spillage. Im running vista ultimate 64bit, and the drivers from samsung update centre for the shortcut keys on the machine is only for 32bit...

Advantages: Aesthetics, Graphics capabilities, HDMI output, Customizing options both hardware and operating features Disadvantages: Keyboard does not light up, more battery life would be nice, no bluetooth
...The samsungR70 came preinstalled with Vista 32bit, was wangled out of my father for my 21st birthday, after owning it for nearly a year now, i must say i am very satisified with its performance, looks and reliability.
Some important points worthy of note...
Keyboard should light up as in dark conditions it becomes hard to see.
looks pretty cool - black all over especially the lid which has a lovely sleek black shiny finish.
Nice responsive keyboard, except my right mouse button tends to stick, which i am sure is a specific problem.
Excellent screen 15.4 widescreen, but prone like many laptops to glare from sunlight.
No bluetooth, but excellent wireless performance.
Battery performance, 1+1/2 hours under heavy usage to 3+ hours under light usage with the screen brightness turned way down.
Good graphics...
