A good looking laptop filled with high fi gadgets: I was attracted to the Samsung R series laptops because of their high specifications and their relatively affordable price compared to other brands with the similar specifications. Now at first sight it looks pretty sleek and I always prefer a glossy Black finish. Now this is a 17inch laptop and is pretty big compared to others. This can be an important decision to make and if you prefer a more portable laptop a 15.4 inch would be fine too- I came across R560 and R510 among Samsung. Now the screen is a wide WXGA- LCD and is perfect for entertainment -movies and games. The camera is pretty good and the memory slot is pretty handy too.
MEMORY and GRAPHICS - Its strengths are surely the huge memory-RAM and the fast processor- to be noted its a 3MB cache core2 duo processor. Looking up the graphic card specifications -its not too great and the very new games which are very demanding may not work smooth and most direct x 10 games will work only in low details. But as a 10x Nvidia graphic card I preferred it to previous and other companies. Sniper Elite and splinter cell double agent worked fine for me. The one disappointing thing is the sound quality from the speakers. Many times they are not loud enough and cannot provide good Bass. You wold be better off buying external speakers.
Now with ever increasing demands from laptops and lowering price one might scuffle at the absence of a Blu ray (though I wouldn't be bothered as I am happy with DVDs) To me buying Laptops is not an easy choice and its a matter of balancing and giving up certain aspects for the gain of another (money was an important for a student like me). And I must admit that the more expensive models from other brands do look to be of better quality.
