I have only had this fridge freezer for a few weeks, so my review is based on a short lived experience. I did however delve into customer reviews myself before purchasing, so my knowledge should be better than someone else who has had the fridge freezer for the same amount of time.
OK, so the first thing about the appliance is that it looks the part. It matches every aspect of my kitchen as if it were designed around it. The only thing that is strange when it is delivered is that the sides of the fridge/freezer are a different, somewhat darker, greyer, colour to the door (which is silver and what you always see if, like me, you shop around on the internet).
On receipt of the unit, i kept it off for 24hours and took that time to read through the manual and think about how to tackle the plumbing in of the water.
I did not find the instructions or diagrams particularly helpful (maybe thats just me) but after a bit of fridge studying and water pipe chasing i kind of got hte gist of what went where and what needed to go where.
The water dispenser does have to be connected up to the mains, although in the instructions it explaims that there is an "internal" model that doesn't. (the water dispenser for this seems to be on the fridge door as opposed to the freezer though.
This is easily done, by anyone, with a self cutting tap that can be found at a local hardware store. The tap is connected to your water mains without having to saw your pipe or anything, then your fridge wate pipe is connected to the other end of the tap and voila, a connected fridge in about 5 minutes.
Just watch out if you are positioning it across the room to where the water mains are though, you may have to go under the floor!
I researched the item before purchase and in doing so i found that some people found it noisy, this is not really so. It sounds like a fridge. The only time when it makes any more noise is if you are using the power freeze of dispensing water/ice.
Also someone complained about it breaking after their 2 yr warranty ran out but they also said that the samsung helpline was great and a larger hole was to be bored so to stop freezing occurrence of their icepipe.
The unit was probably the cheapest of its kind that i had found whilst searching. i, personally used a price comparison site and fount one for about £650 including delivery, then thought i would try a bidding site, for which i saw it for £550 with free delivery if you live within 25miles (which unfortunately i did not). but the value of the fridge for the size of it is great.
one of the set backs possibly is that the freezer space is taken up quite a bit by the ice machine - about a third. this makes the fridge : freezer quite large, but there is still plenty of room in there for my freezer stuff as we buy in a lot of fresh stuff anyway. To combat this, the fridge also has a twin cooling system by which you can keep fresh stuff in the bottom of your fridge, and it keeps them crisper and fresher for longer. The ice maker has 3 settings - cubed, crushed or off, the only thing with this is that when you want your ice. you should open your freezer and take off a "cap" which prevents cold air escaping, then replace it when you have got your ice. they should have made this electronic i feel (UPDATED - sorry there is an automatic shutter beneath, takes a few secs to shut, but its there.). the temperature control is digital and easy to use. the super cool system is also digital and easy to use and the child lock simply stops any of these settings being modified when in use, it doesnt however stop the water and ice functioning!
I will leave it there and just say that i am quite impressed with the appliance for the money that it has cost.
