Key things I assessed prior to buying this Fridge Freezer prior to buying were fridge and freezer volumes, style and space required, specified features, and price; with ease of use also described below:
Size – A key reason for me buying this larger than normal fridge freezer was with the start of a young family I could see the requirement for extra fridge and freezer space. We had also just moved into a larger house that could fit it in comfortably.
Style – The Samsung RS21KPSV1 is a side-by-side American style fridge freezer, which at 90cm wide is a good 50% wider than standard fridges. It is almost about 10cm deeper than the standard 60cm depth of kitchen work surfaces so be aware it will stick out a bit if placed next to existing standard size kitchen units.
Features – A key differentiating feature for me was the availability of ice and cold water straight from a unit housed in the freezer door, accessible from the outside without opening the door and wasting energy. There is a another similar fridge freezer where the water supply can be plumbed in, but for ease I went for one where you just fill up a container in the door every now and again. As this is accessed from the inside you do need to open the freezer door, and now we are in summer I’m having to do this quite often – maybe worth going for the plumbed in version if you think this could be an issue. The major reason for this purchase though was the huge amount of food I could store in both the fridge and freezer, though the freezer is not that huge – partly because the water and ice unit takes up a fair amount of space.
Price – For me the fact that I could get this larger than usual fridge and freezer unit for £550, similar if not cheaper than separate smaller fridges and freezers really made this a very attractive style of solution.
Ease of use – The only issues I have with this fridge-freezer are both water cooling related – I am now starting to wish I had gone for the plumbed in option as whilst more of a hassle initially to plumb in would save hassle in refilling the water container all the time now – a couple of times a day now in summer. The second issue is the cost of Samsung filters – I personally have started using Pozzani filters which have worked fine for a quarter of the price.
Summary.
I feel it is a good deal buying this style of fridge freezer if you need the extra cooling and have the space for it. I think many like I could start to prefer the plumbed in option though refilling the container isn’t that much of a hassle. I do also think the Samsung replacement water filters are a bit of a rip off, though I think all the big manufacturers are the same. All in all I think it is a good buy, though possibly not the best as I think it could be worth going for the plumbed in option.
