I was after a new camera and thought that while the sales are on it would be a good time to look. A friend had showed me her new pink samsung camera which was 10mp (mega pixels) and said it was a really good price. I decided to do a bit of research and came across 2 cameras both by Samsung for around the same price.

The first one i looked at was the Samsung D1070 10mp which was available in Comet in pink or black for £69.99. I decided this was a little bit too pink as it was a bit barbie for me so had a look in Argos where i came across the Samsung S1065 10mp camera for £58.29 (reduced from £79.99) i decided that this was the one i wanted and it was available in silver or pink. Not wanting a silver one i went with the pink. Unlike the D1070 this camera was a much lighter pink.

So with the camera bought i headed home to test it out.

** CAMERA FEATURES **

~ 10.2mp
~ 5x optical zoom
~ 2.7 inch LCD screen
~ Face detection (9 faces)
~ SD memory card compatible
~ 17mb internal memory
~ movie capture with sound
~ 13 scene modes

~ requires 2x AA batteries (supplied)
~ box contains manual, strap, USB cable, software

** LOOK & FEEL **

This camera weighs 160g with a size of 6.3cm (H), 9.8cm (W) and 2.5cm (D). The colour is much nicer than the picture on the Argos website and is a nice pale pearly pink. It has a nice large screen on the back for viewing your photos.

** STARTING THE CAMERA **

The battery compartment is on the bottom and like with any digital camera it's best used with rechargabe batteries as the ones supplied don't last long at all. Using the 17mb internal memory you would only be able to take 4 photos using the full 10.2mp which is no use to anyone. Luckily i had also purchased a 4GB memory card from Argos for £29.99 and once i had inserted this into the slot by the batteries the camera will now take 1306 photos using its full 10.2mp. Much better!!

So with batteries and memory card in place it was time to try it out. You need to hold down the power button on the top to start it up and the lens comes out at the front. For taking any photo it's then very simply point and click. There is no viewfinder so you do need to use the LCD screen to look at but being a very decent size it's not a problem. As soon as you lightly touch down the shutter button a green rectangle appears on the LCD screen to show you what will be in the centre of your photo so allows you to alter your positioning should you need to.

I took a picture of the room i was in to see what it came out like and was very impressed. As it was dull lighting the flash came on automatically and looking back at the picture it had come out a very clear and sharp image.

** THE CAMERA BUTTONS IN MORE DETAIL **
(buttons on the back)

**Zooming**

There is a button at the side of the LCD screen that allows you to zoom in and out before taking a picture. You can also use this button again once you are viewing your photos and it will put them into thumbnails so you can clealry see what you've taken photos of without having to scroll through each one.

**Face Detection**

Use this button when taking photos of people. It will then know to focus more on the people rather than anything in the background to produce a clearer and more defined picture.

** Effects **

This button allows you to alter how you take your photos. You can select for your photos to be taken normally in full colour or the following options are available:

- black & white
- sepia
- red
- green
- blue
- negative

This will automatically colour your photos to how you've set the effect.

** Function**

The function button allows you to set how many pixels you want your camera to take photos using and the quality. There are three quality settings.. fine (which is default), super fine or normal. Reducing the pixels the camera uses to take photos will increase the amount of pictures you can take with your camera but will decrease the quality. On 10mp with 4GB of memory i can take 1306 but if i was to use 9mp i could take 1479 and on 1mp i could take 8716.

The function button is also used to delete pictures when you are viewing them.

** THE CAMERA BUTTONS IN MORE DETAIL **
(wheel on the top)

There is a little wheel shaped dial on the top between the power and shutter buttons that gives you more options for taking photos.

**Auto**

This is set as the defaut camera shooting mode for use if you just want to take a normal photo.

** Movie Clip **

Records for the length of time you have available which is determined by how much free space you have on your camera. To record you simply switch the dial to record and press the shutter button to start and stop filming, then view it in the way way you would a photo. The record mode picks up spound very well and is very good quality playback.

** Scence **

Allows you to select the mode suitable for a variety of settings depending what and where you are taking your photo. For example it will adjust the settings if you are using the camera at night or taking a photo of something moving. This allows you to get the best possible photo.

** Portrait **

For use when taking a photo of a person

** Photo help guide **

Very useful little guide when your out and about with tips on how to use the correct method and setup for taking different pictures.

** Manual **

Allows you to manually configure your settings

** Program **

Configures the camera with optional settings

** DIS **

Selecting this will reduce the amount of camera shake allowing your photos to come out clearer.

** OVERALL VERDICT **

This is a great camera that is fairly lightweight and very easy to use. You can really make it as easy or as hard as you like to use depending if you want to just point and click or whether you want to use all the different features to really enhance your photos. The price is fantastic for a 10mp camera and i believe by far the cheapest. It's available from Argos stores and i would recommend getting a decent sized memory card and rechargeable batteries to be able to get the most out of the camera. Overall a great buy and i'd rate it 10 out of 10.
