I was a bit of a late starter when it came to mobile phones. Everyone else seemed to have one so, in the summer of 1999, I decided I should probably get myself sorted with a mobile.
My girlfriend had been a mobile phone user for years and she knew all the things to look for in a phone - battery life, sound quality, size, weight and so on. Although this probably didn't help much in the end because we both knew which phone we wanted as soon as we saw it in the shop - the Samsung SGH600. We didn't want it for any of the 'sensible' reasons either, but purely because of it's looks.
To be honest, I'm not sure you can still buy this phone on the high street. Maybe you can find an Arthur Daley that'll let you take one off his hands for a tenner at your local market, but that's about the only way you'll get one. Unless you ask me nicely and pay me handsomely, of course :-).
I shall be discussing the phone generally and voicing my opinions about it first - if it's facts you want, skip to the end of this op.
Let's start off with a few bad points then. This is not a recent addition to the mobile phone community, I bought mine almost 3 years ago. As such it doesn't bring with it all the expected benefits of one of your new-fangled Nokia mobile entertainment center thingies. No games, no radio, not many ring tones, no MP3, no WAP, poor sound quality and, let's face it, a pretty poor screen for texting. Doesn't sound too good, does it?
The main problem with this phone is that it is getting on a bit. Technology, in any form, seems to move on a pace year on year and mobile phone technology is no exception. It seems that less than a year after you buy something it is already out of date. The lasting quality that the Samsung SGH600 has is it's styling. No other phone (IMVHO) comes close. You can keep your flashy Nokia's with their personalisable ring tones, covers and flashy graphics. Give me the smooth styling of my silvery Samsung any day.
Any other advantages? Yes, of course there are. I love the flip activation - no need for fiddling about trying to find the answer button - simply flip open the case and you've answered the phone. And if you're making a call, you can record your voice to automatically activate the dialling of any of the numbers in your phone book - it's called voice activation, I'm sure you've heard of it.
Lastly, the phone is very simple to use. It's obvious which buttons to press - even the answer and power buttons are colour coded green and red respectively, and they have a little answered phone and phone-on-hook symbol to help out the terminally stupid.

Advantages: Small, inexpensive, all you need and more! Disadvantages: Display may be too small.
I bought the Samsung because it was a bit different, but I now believe that it is one of the best mobiles on the market. It's main advantage is that it is so user friendly. Voice dialing is one of the main attractions, but I would say that it is only 90% effective with the hands-free kit in, (which comes free). The other main advantage of the SGH 600 is that it is so small, possibly too easy to lose!! But nevertheless, this phone will catch the eye!! ...

Advantages: active flip Disadvantages: not as nice as the 2400
...the cheaper end of the Samsung series but doesn't look too cheap, it actually looks quite cool (cool rating 6/10). It has a nice unique active flip, free hands free kit and the ability to make calls by just the call of the name. However, it has annoying buttons on the side which I don't particularly agree with. This phone is not dual band though and the if you want dual band you will want to buy the more expensive SGH2400. However, it does have a ...

This my first mobile phone and i have owned this mobile for about 4 months now.
It has a lithium battery which doesn't need to be completely flat before being topped up, which is really useful if you have part-charge but need a bit extra.
Its the most fully packed featured mobile around! With Voice Dialing, Voice Memo, Speed Dial, Comprehensive Call Records, Call Timers, Active Flap, Vibrating Alert.
The display is easy to read and the phone is ...

Advantages: Small and lightweight. Voice recognition system Disadvantages: Voice recognition doesn't always work
I bought the Samsung SGH-600 about 6 months ago due to its small size and having the features I want, especially the vibrating battery which comes in handy whilst I'm in a meeting or in a noisy environment. The cost of the phone was a mere £20 on the Vodafone Leisure 250 network.
There are loads of other bonuses with this phone on top of what I've already mentioned. These include a battery that can be charged at any time (older style batteries should ... ...and probably the best feature of all is the hands free kit. This consists of a small button placed near the mouthpiece and is used for dialling people using the voice recognition system. Therefore whilst driving you doun't have to dial just press the button, say the name of the recipient and that's it!
This is a very good phone with few flaws. ...

Advantages: Small size, cute, flip top, voice memo+recognition, sleek, retro Disadvantages: Quiet sound on calls, poor battery life
mmm.... what can i say? This may be an ancient phone but it is so very gorgeous! Be alternative I say, stray away from your average Nokia and venture into Samsung's beautifully crafted world. It is most stunning in Champagne Gold. An ariel that can be pulled up for that full-on-retro look is pretty comic. A flip-top cover feels very smooth, even into my 2nd year of owning it. The volume control on the left hand side is a sleek rubber finish, as with ... ...when you take it off you see just how small the pone actually is, as the halves in size. Feature-wise, its got a pretty easy no-frills menu system, the time, a quick access menu, call records (out, in, missed, total), Inbox for text messages, writing menu (text messaging is gorgeous coz the keys are so smooth and require no effor to press), 'pre-set messages' where you can set up common messages to save and send later, the ability to recieve broadcast ...

Advantages: Looks, battery life, menu Disadvantages: buttons close to slider, poss risk of charger slot/microsd slot covers breaking off
...I have been used to Nokia all my life and couldnt see past them...until i switched to a razr and then to this Samsungsgh600.
This i did on advice from my 17year old boy!!.
i cant say i am a phone-a-holic,but i am quite taken with this one for many reasons.First of all is the looks and second, general ease of use.Thirdly,my main complaint with all other phones was the battery life, especially when on bluetooth headset, where the battery lasted the same as the lifetime of a mayfly...if you were lucky.
This seems much better.
I cant comment on the freebies as i didnt get any as it was a free upgrade.
Overall i am please with the phone and will not rush to change it.
My only 2 niggles are the fiddlyness of the charging cover etc on phone, and the fact that the buttons are a shade to close to the bottom of the slider for comfort...

Advantages: Attractive, easy to use, lots of features Disadvantages: Camera good but not brilliant, distinctly average ringtones
...The SamsungSGH G600 is a very attractive phone with some interesting features which set it apart from other mobiles - for instance, you can design your own profile and change the colours and pattern, rather like with a computer. You can also store photos and other files on a memory card which comes free with the phone, and fits inside it so as not to be a nuisance. Texts however cannot be stored on the card, so there is only space for 200 pages on the phone, which can get a little irritating. The camera is good but does not deal well with changing lights and movement, but I love how easy it is to edit pictures, changing their effects and cropping them to size. One major criticism is that it doesn't stand up well to water - I'm currently on my second one of the same model, because the first one broke after being left in a bag which...

Advantages: QWERTY Keyboard, Runs Windows, Robust Disadvantages: Can run a bit slow, No touch screen
...The SamsungSGH-i600, known as the Blackjack / i607 in the U.S, is a smartphone with a QWERTY keyboard (has keys like on a computer keyboard). The phone is a PDA style phone and often gets mistaken for a Blackberry, which is famous for the QWERTY keyboard. It definitely looks good and for the professional, which is the intention as it is intended as a business phone. I've dropped it many times with and without it being in a case so the phone is pretty tough.
On the front, it has a 2.3 inch screen and a lot of buttons underneath it, most of which makes up the keyboard. The number pad has been combined with the keyboard and although looks a bit strange, is quite easy to dial the correct numbers because the buttons with numbers are in gray. The buttons are quite small but there is a big enough gap between each button so it's not...
