Hi my name is Julian and I live in Bristol England, myself and my partner have been here for about a year and we kinda like the place. Work in Bath, I speak a bit of Italian and French and enjoy art, movies and sports.

I have had the good fortune of using two reasonabley new phones recently, the Samsung E700 and the Sharp GX20. The sharp has a better camera, better LCD screen (Front and Main) and better PC communication. Tuttavia, as the Italians would say, I would not swap it for my E700, simply, a few gripes aside, this is the pinnacle of telephone excellence. I am sure in the future, the clever people will produce a better camera and better screen. However I doubt they will better this super stylish little phone (and I mean little). The front LCD has been criticised in some reviews, but I think the grainy sepia image is just cool, kinda like a seventies sci fi show, my Sharp GX20 has a very clear full colour image on the front screen, but I don't like it, its just too real. The inside screen is smaller, but very clear, the menu's are easy to use and colourful, although I have yet to figure out how to get one of the service menu's it just appears out of the blue sometimes!! Both the Sharp and the Samsung produce 480 by 640 DPI images, which when transferred to computer, the the Sharp produces clearer photos.
This leads me to my first major gripe, the IR port does not work, it transfers the telephone numbers but you have to SMS mail your pictures to your computer, costing money, this is extremely annoying. Samsung, make some software to fix this NOW, as my old Samsung T100 data cable does not work either! Taking a picture is easy, you can use either the function keys or the right side button. This is gripe number two, I have very many nice pictures of my pocket, every now and again I walk down the street and Ker-Click, the camera goes off! The third and potentially most damaging problem is the software, the Samsung Software is excellent, but T-mobile, my provider have butchered in their own stuff, one wrong touch of a button and you are connecting to the WAP browser and something called T-Zones. Avoid this handset on T-Mobile. So you may ask, why, with these problems, do I love this phone. Well let me explain, it is ,quite simply, very cool, it is the smallest phone with a good camera I have ever seen. It has no aerial, which makes it look good and easy to handle. The colour scheme, of cool blue and silver, is very attractive and the clamshell fits together perfectly, which is very satisfying, unlike many other phones. the build quality is very good, I know its plastic, but I have dropped it twice on concrete and it was fine.
I think that for people wanting high end spec and cutting edge technology then the Sharp GX20 is the phone for you. If, however, you are like me and want something stylish, small and extremely cool, then this is the phone for you.
All in all it has its faults, but this will be my phone for the rest of time, or until the next good one comes out!

To transfer images/sounds etc over IR, use the file transfer function rather than the image transfer (which is disabled). The program(easystudio) will tell you what files can go in what directories. You can also upload animated Gif's up to 100k for the phones wallpaper!

For grex9101, I have flu today, that’s why I am writing rambling reviews about phones and why I can’t sleep. As for "pinnacle of technology", I was being a little facetious, fact is there are many phones with better technology and everyone knows that the 1994 edition Motorola D9 (about 25cm long weight 0.5Kg) was the absolute ‘pinnacle’ of mobile technology. And IR means Infra Red, they sometimes use IRDA, for Laptop connections, some phones can be used as modems, when you are on the move, but it is slow and expensive.
I did not realise you could get comments, thank you for your time.
Advantages: High quality camera and screen, good looks, lots of storage, nice keypad layout Disadvantages: Limited software functionality (esp. phonebook), medium battery life, no bluetooth, no voice activation.
