I have had my Pink Samsung SGH E900 for almost a year now and its still in perfect working order and condition, apart from a tiny scratch on the screen which is barely visible. I bought this phone shortly before christmas last year when it first come out on sale. I bought it from phones for you and I paid £180 although you can buy it at a much cheaper price now.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Apperance & Size ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Samsung SGH E900 is dark pink in colour, although I think it looks more like a deep red colour. The phone is fairly small and light weight, it measures 93x45x17mm and weighs 93 grams, and it fits nicely into pockets, especially the top pocket on my denimn jacket.
The phone is a sliding phone which means that you have to slide it upwards if you want to send a text message, answer or make a phone call.
The front of the phone is really smooth, sleek and shiny. It has touch sensitive buttons and a navigation key. The touch sensitive buttons are heat as well as touch sensitive so you really only have to touch them really lightly with thetip of your finger for them to work. The screen on the phone is fairly large and it is a 240 x 320 pixel, 262,000 TFT LCD colour screen.
The Samsung SGHE900 is fairly similar looking to the LG Chocolate phone but the E900 has more features and looks much nicer.
~~~~~~~~~ Buttons ~~~~~~~~~ ===Touch Sensitive=== On the front of the SGH E900 there are 6 touch sensitive buttons, the top two buttons on the touch sensitive pad are three bold dots (...) the set of dots on the left of the phone are for entering into the phone menu where you can access your call logs, text messages and calander etc. The second set of dots on the right of the phone are used to view your contacts phone numbers.
Below the dots there are two other buttons which look like l<< and l>> these buttons are used when you are listing to music through the SGH E900 music player and you use theese buttons to skip tracks forward and backwards.
The last set of two touch sensitive buttons are used for making and ending phone calls. To make a call you press the button on the left which looks like a phone reciever and to end a call you press the button on the right which looks like a phone reciever with the letter c below it.
The touch sensitive buttons make the phone look really sleek
and shiny but they can often frustrate you because I have lost count of the times where I have been in the middle of composing a text message and accidentally brushed my finger accross one of the touch sensitive buttons which compleyely deleted the whole of my text message. I did this quite alot when i first got the phone but because I have had it a long time now I rarely do this, the buttons just take a little time to get used to.
Navigation Key
The navigation key is the only button on the front of the phone which sicks out. It is a square shaped button with a shiny silver coloured outline and a shiny silver square shaped select or OK button in the middle of it. The navigation key is used to navigate through the different menus and features of the SGH E900. It is quite easy to use and the button doesnt stick of jam after a while like some other mobile hones which is good. (4/5)
Number and Texting Keys
The number keys are only visible when the phone is slid upwards. The number keys are set out in the same way as any other mobile phone and have the letters printed below the numbers. The phone has a couple of hot keys built into it which can be used quickly by pressing and holding the appropriate number. If you press and hold key number 1 it will automatically call your voicemail number for you so as you can listen to any missed voicemails. If you press and hold the # key it will put your phone on silent mode and to take your phone off silent mode you just press and hold the same button again.
The number and texting keys are really easy to use, the buttons dont really stick from the phone much, they are rather flat, but this doesnt make it hard to press them to text or call. I think that this is a better idea because there is less chance of anything getting stuck behid the buttons and making them clog up and jam. The number keys are fairly large and responsive.(5/5)
Side Buttons
There aren't many side buttons on the SGH E900, there are only three of them. One is on the left side of the slider, which is used to turn the call volume or music player volume up and down. The other teo buttons are on the right side of the slider, one is used to turn the phone on and off and the other is used to access the camera and music player. This is a really good idea because I use the music player and camera on my phone quite alot, and this provides wuick easy access to them because I dont have to trawl through the menus inorder to find what I need. (5/5)
~~~~~~~~ Features ~~~~~~~~ This phone is jam packed with all the modern features you would expect to find on a mobile phone. The features on the SGH E900 are ~
Bluetooth
The bluetooth on the phone is really fast and easy to use. Bluetooth is used to connect to other mobile phones of friends and family who are close range to your phone in order to quickly send and recieve files such as songs and photos. Bluetooth is a really quick way to connect and share files on your phone with friends and family. All popular mobiles have bluetooth on them now. I would be lost if I didn't have bluetooth on my phone because I am always sending and recieving ringtones and pictures from my little sister. (5/5)
Camera
The phone has a 2 megapixel camera with a LED flash and 4 X digital zoom. The pictures taken with the camera are fairly good quality providing you don't print them. I had a great picture of my son on my phone and I wanted to print it and when I did it was really blurrred and hazy looking on photo paper. But the photos do look great on your phone set as wallpapers or caller ID's.
When you have took a photo or if you have one stored on your phone you can edit it and add frames and photo effects to it. You can also take mosaic style pictures with the phone.
The camera on the phone is really good, but it would be better if it had more megapixels so as the photos could be printed clearly. (3/5)
Video
The Video Camera on the phone isn't that good for filming short video clips because the sound quality is quite poor and crackly. If you are filming a video it will only let you film a video for a maximum of 3 minutes, which isn't that good so I very rarely use the video camera. This is probably one of the worst things about the phone because alot of newer mobile phones on the market allow you to film longer videos and the quality is much more better. You can also send the short videos you have filmed using this phone through a multimedia text message providing the person you are sending it to has a phone which accepts multimedia messages.(2/5)
Video and Music Playback
The media centre on the phone is great because you can play all the songs that you have stored on the phone just in the same way you would do with a MP3 player. The volume is really loud and clear when playing songs back. The phone only plays back MP3 songs and the best thing about the music playback is that you dont have to look for another song to play after one has finished because it will automatically play through all the songs one after another.
The Video playback quality is quite good providing that you are not playing back videos you have took with the SGH E900 video camera. If you are playing videos which you have filmed yourself using the SGH E900 video camera the visual quality is quite good but the audio quality really lets it down because there is alot of crackling sounds. I have noticed that vodeos I have recieved through bluetooth are of much better quality because they have not been filmed using the SGH E900. (3/5)
Messaging
This phone allows you to send text messages, video messages, multimedia messages and e-mails. I only use the text messaging on the phone because there is no need for me to send multimedia messages with pictures and videos in them because I can do all that through bluetooth. When you are texting using the phone you have the option to select T9 predictive texting so that you only have to click on the letter once and the phone will select the word for you. I find this too hard to do and I stick to the normal way of texting. (5/5)
Phone Memory
The SGH E900 has a built in memory of 80 MB but I find this isn't enough because I have loads of pictures and music stored on my phone. The best thing about the memory is that you can extend it by inserting a micro SD memory card into the bottom of the phone so as you can store loads of music picturues and videos on it. I have a 512MB memory card inserted into my phone and it isn't full yet, I don't think that I will upgrade the memory any more because the 512 MB is sufficient because I havent used it all, im lucky if I have used half of it.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Samsung PC Studio ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ When I got this phone there was a disc and a USB lead inside the box.. The Samsung PC studio allows you to connect your phone to your PC inorder to transfer and manage files between them. The best thing about the PC studio is that you can edit a MP3 song to make it shorter inorder to use it as a ringtone. There are loads of other things you can do with the PC studio such as editing photos, editing movies, editing sounds, play multimedia files and manage photos. The PC studio is really easy to use and there is a help section and updates included with it when you install it on your computer.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Packaging ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Samsung SGH E900 is packaged in a small sturdy cardboard box, which has a fairly large picture of the phone on the front it and a list of all the phone's features on the side and base of the box. On the side of the box there is a large white sticker stuck to it which has your phones model, manufacturer and mobile phone IMEI number printed on it along with 2 barcodes.
The box of the phone is sealed closed with a security label, so as you know it is brand new and as proof so as you know the phone inside hasn't been tampered with.
When you open the box, your new phone will be snugly placed inside a dimpled piece of sturdy cardboard similar to the cardboard used in egg boxes and the phone will be covered in plastic wrapping and the screen will have a clear piece of plastic stuck to it to stop it being scratched. Below the cardboard you will find the other accessories which come supplied with your phone.~~~~~~~~~~ Contents ~~~~~~~~~~ Inside the Samsung SHG E900 mobile phone box you will find ~
Pay As You Go Sim Card and Network provider manual
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Battery Life ~~~~~~~~~~~~ When you first open your phones box and install the battery it is best to leave your phone turned off and charge it for 16-18 hours so as the battery is charged to full capacity. When your phone is fully charged you should get about 3.5 hours talk time or 9 days stand by out of it. I usually only have to charge my phone twice a week, and I use it quite alot every day. The battery really does last for a long time and doesnt need charging very much. When I do charge my phone it takes 90 minutes to fully charge it when the battery life is low, which is really quick compared to some mobile phones.
~~~~~~~~~~ My Opinion ~~~~~~~~~~ I love this phone and I have had it for a while now. It is a really sturdy durable phone which will last for a long time. I have dropped it in the ground and in the sink full of water by accident, and amazingly it still works and is in great condition apart from a tiny scratch on the screen which is barely visible.
When my phone got drenched in a sink full of fairy liquid I thought it was going to be comletely useless and had to go in the bin, but because it is a slide phone the water didnt get right inside the phone and damage the buttons, battery and technical thingys.
I think that this phone is great value for money and really hardwearing and easy to use. It is also sold in black if you don't like the pink version.
You can buy it from argos, carphone warehouse, phones 4u, woolworths and other mobile phone shops on a pay as you go for about £80 now, because the price has dropped since I bought it.
