I usually go with Nokia mobile phones but as I was in a bit of a rush due to my much needed phone being in adversity damaged, (more dropped into a toilet to be exact… which doesn’t do it any good at all), I went for a cheap and cheerful model known as a Samsung J700, which is offered on all networks with either PAYG or contract. I opted for a PAYG on the orange networks as I have been on Orange for what seems like an eternity. Anyway, I had heard a few good things about this particular phone and thought ‘why the hell not??… I mean, for under thirty quid I couldn’t grumble.
WHAT IS IT..?
It is a sliding phone weighing in at under 100 grams, easily fitting into your pocket, being approximately 10 by 5 cm and a little under 1 ½ cm thick.
WHAT’S IN THE BOX..?
Opening the box I found
The actual phone. (obviously)
The battery. (pre-charged)
USB cable
Instructions
Charger
Earphones/aerial
A SIM card
WHAT DOES IT OFFER..?
It has a 2 inch screen which is nice and clear.
1.3 megapixal camera and video, with many little adjustments for each, including a rather nice little zoom feature.
250 hours on stand by with about 2 ½ hours continuous talk time, (which is good for you women LOL)
GPRS for connection to the mobile internet, a USB connection (supplied) for working with a PC and the usual Bluetooth technology.
An MP3 player, (although this is best used when a micro sd card is inserted), storing music on formats such as MP3, AAC and MIDI.
FM radio, using the supplied earphones as an aerial.
Organiser function, (as most phones do), which gives you the likes of a calendar, clock, alarm, calculator and currency converter?
MEMORY..?
The internal memory isn’t the greatest, being 10 MB in the phone itself, although thus can be boosted by a micro SD card (2 GB maximum), which does give you a lot more scope. The micro SD simply slots into the bottom left of the outside of the phone
IN CONCLUSION..?
After I’d salvaged my Nokia from the depths of the porcelain potty, (which I’d lost many pagers down..) I managed to recover the SIM out of it, (they are very resilient after all--- it’s a shame the actual phones aren’t). Once I’d dried out the SIM card I simply slipped it into the back of the Samsung, replacing the already semi-charged battery, and I was back in business.
This little beauty looks the part and has a lot of capabilities for the price you pay. In fact it almost resembles some of the expensive mobiles so the trend setter wont be embarrassed when making or receiving a call. It feels solid in the grip, sliding open well and weighing enough to make you think that you are actually holding a more pricey modal. The little camera isn’t the best on the market, (1.3 megapixals), but it does take some rather interesting photos and some very good quality video footage,(and this is a function I do need for my day to day work life). The length and quality of the footage depends on the settings you prefer.
When you first look at the phone you will notice the good size and quality feel, the 2 inch screen standing proudly above the navigation key. Once slid open you will instantly notice the bright screen with all it’s functions being at hand through the Menu button (bottom left) and from here you can easily take control of the phone itself. The number button are a good size allowing for ‘large fingered’ people to dial a number or even input a text message without too much hassle.
As I said earlier, the internal memory isn’t the greatest but once you’ve purchased a 2 BG memory card (under £7 from amazon, which includes the USB adapter and SD card), you’ll be quite happy with the amount of ’stuff’ you can fit onto it. The speaker is of a good quality which allows you to listen to your favourite tracks which are on your Micro SD card, anywhere and anytime…
In all, it is a nice little phone for those on a budget. It has everything that many other more expensive phones offer and will not disappoint the average user. If you are thinking of getting a mobile phone for your kids then this is the one for them… inexpensive (cheap), good quality and sturdy with a nice little camera/video to capture all those little moments.
** The only real downside to this little gem was the slight difficulties in taking the back off to put in the battery and SIM card. It is a matter of pushing and perseverance but it does slide off eventually.
...efforts. The Samsung 700i is the latest X1in many ways, a cheap model that has all the basic features and the all important pay-as-you-go options for most networks. Its looks pretty neat and with its slide up handset and sleek black and silver finish it wont embarrass you in those trendy bars, no need to worry about the beautiful people who pull out their £250 pound phones pointing at you in disgust and mockery as they take pictures of each other ... ...are for texting and emergency calls only so not to be waved around like a porn stars penis, what an expensive cell phone really is to guys. -Features- 1.3 mega pixel camera with video playback and capture (industry standard) A 1.3 MP3 player (plays various digital formats...MP3, AAC, AAC+ & MIDI) An FM radio Expandable memory slot of up to 2GB to put up to 420 your songs on. 2GB card costs between £8 and £12 on top Stereo Bluetooth to listen to it ...

Samsung J700 Pink
My review on the lovely pink Samsung j700 mobile phone.
I purchased this phone last week online as I thought it was a brilliant wee phone. I read review after review and no one had a bad word to say about it, so I purchased it for 49.99 from Amazon brand new.
The look…
The phone is very stylish and trendy. It is a mixture of dark and light metallic pink with a slide feature. On the front it has got the main screen, and underneath ... ...again. And like other Samsung phones I have used, predictive text lets you select the words from a list, but once you space off that word you cant go back to predict and change it, meaning, delete it and re-write it. The last problem I have it that you MUST get a memory card for the phone, The memory is dreadful I got to store 2 songs on the phone, and then there was no more room, which meant I couldn't use my camera as it couldn't save the picture ...

Advantages: A great, reliable and cheap phone full of standard features Disadvantages: Not the highest picture and sound quality
...a spare phone - the Samsung SGH-J700. ~The Phone Itself~ The design itself is quite sleek, obviously not to the standard of some of the newer and more expensive phones of late, but still quite stylish in looks for the price paid for it. It is a 'slide-up' phone where you have to push the screen up to reveal the key buttons underneath. This is a standard style phone and not a touch screen phone. It is available with either a black or silver casing. ... ...makes the phone look more expensive than it actually is. The top of the phone consists of a screen measuring around 1.8" x 1.5", which is pretty impressive for this phone, as the phone itself is quite small, so I think they have made the most of the space by optimising the screen as much as possible. You also get a circular menu button in the middle which dominates the phone and the usual call answer, call ending and cancel buttons too. All these ...

Advantages: A great phone and at an even greater price Disadvantages: None
...move. My Thoughts ********** Samsung in my opinion not only delivers fantastic looking phones but also very robust ones. I have dropped this on a number of occasions and it still works fine. Whenever i change phones i always go for a Samsung if i can. What i love about this phone is that the keypad has fairly large buttons, so if like me you have large fingers it is still easy to send a text message. The menus are fairly straight forward so you do ... ...morning or find the calculator when doing the shopping. The timer on it is great for boiling eggs, what i mean is, if like me you like to time your cooking, just set the timer and it will set off an alarm when it finishes. I have to admit that i have not tried the WAP function on the phone yet and that's only because i am too lazy to do it. Although the phone has a 10Mb internal memory this can soon be used up when you start adding music and ring ...

Advantages: Variety of features, reliable Disadvantages: Camera Quality not the best
The Samsung SGH-J700 is a very stylish, compact, easy-to-use phone which comprises many features. This phone consists of an MP3 Player, radio, bluetooth, camera, video camera, calculator, caller identity, calendar, and the list goes on. This phone also is very cheap and currently retails at approximately £40.00. The design of the phone is thin, compact, does not take up a lot of room and has a slide screen. The sound quality is also quite good.
... ...use, ie: sms / text messaging, listening to music, talking on the phone, etc. One disadvantage that I can think of is that the camera is not the best quality and often blurs.
I purchased this phone about 4 months ago and this phone has been great ever since.
I can highly recommend this phone for you to purchase, if you wish for something cheap and for basic everyday use. ...
