The phone looks good - no two ways about that, but it does have some flaws that would probably, just, stop me recommending it. To start with up until now I've always had Nokia, so I wasn't quite used to the different way of navigating the options. To me, the Nokia way makes more sense (and I've had the Samsung for quite a few months now....). But that's not a major problem, although even now there are some things I can't find when I want them.
What does but me is how QUIET it is. If I'm anywhere with any sort of noise - even just in a conversation - I can't always hear the phone ring. When I do hear it, I'll discover that it's actually the answerphone calling me back for the 3rd or 4th time, which is annoying because it then costs me to return the call. As for if I'm out and about - there is no change of hearing it ring then. The vibrate is good, but you can't feel that unless it's against your body (the most likely way of knowing it's calling is to HEAR it VIBRATE, on a table for example. The other thing that bugs me is the text messaging. Changing from normal small to normal capitals to symbols (yes, a whole separate setting for symbols) to numbers to predictive is one button. But if I want CAPITAL PREDICTIVE that's a totally different button. Maybe that's all Samsungs. The buttons are very close together, and can make my thumb ache if i text too much! Also, if I get part way through a message and a call comes or I press a different wrong button by accident, the message is lost. It doesn't save it as you write it like my Nokia did, incase you do something daft! So then you have to start all over again..... Likewise if you write a text to a person then realise you don't have their number - you have to realise this before you get to the address book otherwise it's too late to save it. Again, maybe all Samsungs.....
You can download games (although I haven't tried this) and you can apparently transfer data by infra red, although I couldnt' manage to get that to work either. I'm sure it would be possilbe if I could be bothered. The battery life is not huge, but it came with two batteries so you can keep a spare charged.
On balance it is a really nice little phone, but because of it's small quirks I think I'll be tempted back to Nokia when it's due for replacement.

Just a note - the phone this review is about is the S300, not the S300M, but I don't know how to remove it.
