Advantages Style, range of features, interface
Disadvantages Very sensitive, long wait on camera
After previously owning a Samsung D800 slide phone and being extremely impressed with the interface and ease of use, i thought i would keep with the same design when recently upgrading to a contract. After owning it for a couple of months it has exceeded all expectations and is a massive improvement on my previous model.
One of the main attractions with this phone is the slide mechanisms, which has really been adopted bu Samsung lading to an impressive mechanism that works extremely smoothly. Another impressive design feature is that the phone is only 11mm thick, adding to the modern style of the phone. The incorporation of a touch screen for the select and call buttons also make operation easier and add to the smooth appearance of the phone. The only problem which i have found with this though is that they are very sensitive, which has led to several accidental phone calls, but once you are used to it it doesnt seem to happen as often. The features of this phone is where the improvement for me shows. Compared to a 1.2MP camera on my old phone this 3.2MP camera, which has an incorporated video recording function and produces very high quality pictures. the inbuilt flash, although fairly weak, also makes taking pictures in the dark possible. Unfortunately, even though the spec. of the camera is good the only problem i have found is that the pictures take about 5 seconds to process, which has led to many opportunities being missed or blurred. The inbuilt memory card slots allows a micro SD card upto 2 GB to be used which means that you can store a vast amount of images, music and videos. I currently have a 1 GB card and have nearly 200 tracks and numerous pictures on there so for an additional £10 it is well worth getting. As for the other features this phone has all the expected ones such as ; bluetooth, FM radio, MP3 player and quadband technology, so you can use the phone globally.
the one thing that i like about the samsung range is the user interface, which although updated in this phone is still as elegant and easy to use as the old one. the menu is extremely easy to use and all of the options follow a logical order meaning that you can find anything extremely easily. An impotant factor with any phone is its battery life, which does depend greatly on how much you use it, but for my amount of use i find it to be just as good as some of my older phones, having to recharge it every few days. The recharging itself only takes up to an hour so i really hav'nt found it a problem.
Finally, even though this phone is not 3G the reception is extremely impressive. I am currently on Vodafone and i know that reception varies with operators, but i have had no problems with signal as of yet. This phone is a lot about style and this may have lead to a slight comprimise in the quality of some of the features but the phone is extremely solid and i have had no major problems. Even though i got it free on contract it is worth the price it is advertised but if you are thinking of buying it, it is worth checking out some of the more recent models to compare the quality of the features.
