This for me has to be the slimmest Samsung phone I have ever had, at first I was worried about dropping it as it may break! But after 2 weeks of owning the phone and a few drops here and there. Not only is it still not scratched but still working, which is a plus for me.
My U900 is purple and I only had a choice of purple or purple, so I went with the purple one. I have looked into over colours on other networks and at the car phone warehouse you get more choice.
O2:- sliver, pink and blue Orange:- pink, purple and blue T mobile:- pink, sliver and blue Vodafone:- none found
From the care phone warehouse all the above colours are available on a pay monthly (contract), however on pay as you go there was only the pink and the blue and prices started at £69.95. If you wanted to buy the purple U900 prices start from £99.99 from orange.
Ok so lets start to talk about the phone itself
The Samsung U600 is from the Ultra Edition II
range, the U900 is slimmer and very lightweight than the D900/D900i . the slide-open is really smooth, in the past the slide opening has been far from smooth with a clunky feeling to it and with one drop the slider had broken. The shimmering casing is very attractive and elegant, the large colour display screen dominates the front while the phone is closed, when the phone opens the key pad is large and easy to see.
The touch screen does need a bit of getting use to if you have not used a touch screen phone before, at first I would accidentally touch one of the call buttons and I call the last person I had called 20 mins ago by mistake, but the trick is not to be heavy handed with! Now I find it works perfectly with out any mishaps. Another thing about the touch screen it that when you are making calls it locks, so you don't accidentally hang up on your caller! It is really easy to get out of just press the ok button or close the slider to end the call.
Battery life and memory
The battery has 4.3 hours of talk time and 11.4 days on standby. I only charge my phone up every 2 days and that's with it being on 24 hours a day, however when I use the music player and radio a lot then this does drain the battery more.
The media player is just like any other mp3 player. You have the shuffle and repeat modes, rate tracks and make your own play lists. You can also turn on the 3D sound which I personally don't like as I think it makes the sound tinny. The phone accepts audio formats including MP3, AAC, and WMA. However I have only Put mp3 songs on to the phone. The overall quality of the music player is really good compared to other Samsung models
The radio player needs to have the ear phones plugged into the phone as they also act as the antenna. You have the self tuning function available and can store as many stations you can find.
With the music that you have on the media player can also be used as ring tones, you are able to set a certain song for a specific person. Also you can have your own text message tones, on other Samsungs you have not been able to do this, however on the U900 this is now an option. So can identify who is either ring you or texting you without even looking at you phone, but you can only do this if the numbers are stored to the phone and not the sim card.
Other information
The U900 has Bluetooth like all the phones now days, so you can connect to a headset. Also if you have a tom-tom that has Bluetooth capability then your phone will also connect to that so you can be completely hands free whilst driving.
You get all the other features that are normally found on phones:- calendar, alarm, memo, tasks, converter, voice recorder, browser and world clock, all of these features are really simple to use.
Bluetoothing
All the phones that you can buy in the shops all now come with Bluetooth as standard however the U900 has the 2.0 version, Samsung claim that this is meant to be more secure than other version and means hackers have a hard time accessing your phone. I have to say that when Bluetoothing music to another phone it does do it a lot quicker than my old phone and the quality is a lot better.
Camera
The phone has a 3.2megapixel auto - focus camera with a 262k colour screen, you hold the camera sideways to take the shot. You can either press the round ok button or the small camera button on the side, the target square in the screen will turn green just before the phone takes the picture, which I thinks saves all the blurred ones you use to get and deleting when someone didn't hold still. The picture quality is really great I haven't seen a picture quality this good on a phone, it is so clear and crisp just like if you had taken it with a normal digital camera.
Like most other phones you are also able to make videos, again the picture quality is really good on this function to, I took a short piece of film of my cats running around and there was no blurring when they moved quickly, unlike my old phone the were just a blurry ball on the screen. Zooming in and out features are available on both camera and video.
Over all
It took a while for me to get use to this phone, and while I was at time I nearly pulled my hair out!! But now I love it. The sound is absolutely great and so are the pictures I can take, I near go any where with out my phone and now that I have an music player on my phone that holds a lot more songs I don't need to carry a mp3 player as well. I recommend to people who are buying or about to upgrade a phone, to get this one. It looks stylish and has all you will ever need on it!!
