Samsung SGH X700

...was this little phone the Samsung X700.

I have had this phone for only a week and where some people may say this isn't a long enough time to get to know your phone or even write a review about it i feel that i know enough about the phone to do it justice.

Would i recommend him yes i would to all you first timers that have never used an Mp3 player phone this is a great phone to start with but for all you technical buffs it's probably not big and powerfull enough for you that is why it's very much a girly phone.   ... more

Having had my old W800i phone for 12 months it was now time to upgrade so off i popped to the orange online upgrade shop and too my surprise there wasn't much choice to choose from.
Call me fussy but after owning the W800i i wanted something a little different but with the same qualities, and not wanting a Sony Ericsson again the only phone that i found to be almost comparable with the W800i was this little phone the Samsung X700.

*****The contents of the box*****

In the box that came with the phone you get Samsung hands free ear phones which also doubles up as the ariel for the radio and ear phones for the Mp3 player.
You get a pc suit for your computer and the user guide plus a leaflet that tells you how to correctly dispose of the product if you no longer want it.

*****The phone*****
The phone comes in black which i assume is the only colour they do in this particular model as i haven't seen any other colour advertised.

The phone itself is rather smart it is about the same length as the W800i yet it is slightly slimmer.
The key pad is small and compact but it is still easy to text with it and it doesn't have the slide up action unlike most Samsungs.
On the left side of the phone you have the volume control, on the wright side of the phone you have the camera button , the ear phone socket and a slot to add a memory card, on the bottom of the phone is the socket for the charger.

The phones battery doubles up as the back cover which is quite nifty as it means you don't have to mess around trying to get the battery out to put the sim card in as it just pops out easily.

*****Features*****
The phone has a 1.3 mega pixal camera with digital zoom even with this the picture quality isn't great and if you don't have the write light it will be blurry.
The phone has also got a built in video camera great for capturing your kids or moments you don't want to forget.

The Mp3 player on the phone so far has let it down you get 3 song's with the phone by an unknown artist and when i wanted to download and store my own songs to the phone i was only able to put 2 songs on it as the memory was full, so unless you are willing to delete the songs that came with the phone which is no big problem it is wise to invest in a memory card which is what i will be doing.
The sound quality of the Mp3 player is a little tinny yet it has good graphics that play along with the song and the sound at full volume is adequate.

The phone features all your normal stuff you would expect to have on a mobile such as a calender, phone book, browser, call records,settings and text messages sms and mms.

The Application menu stores your Mp3 player, voice recorder java world, radio, world time, alarm calculator, converter, timer,and stop watch.

The games that come with the phone are Forgotten warrior, Free kick and Arch Angel.

You have the ability to send and receive via blue tooth on the phone which i find very usefull but it has no infer -red.

*****Ease of use****
I have found the phone very easy to use and the main menu is very easy to navigate around as you have all your main files on the menu screen under the appropriate name such as texts and call records.
The phone has built in short cuts the left directional keypad takes you to the write a new text screen, the wright directional key pad takes you to the calendar, up directional keypad takes you to the Mp3 player,and down directional keypad takes you to the Fm radio.
The on/off switch is situated on the keypad itself and it doubles up as the end call key.

******Battery life*****
When i first got the phone i only charged it for an hour as i was unsure if i was going to keep it or not but for this hour i got a whole days usage out of the phone which again makes the phone stand out from the crowd and like most phones it makes a little noise if the battery is near dead which i must say isn't that annoying.

*****Cost and Availability*****
As this was an upgrade phone it cost me nothing but as i decided to upgrade i also chose to upgrade and renew my contract with orange i get 200 mins a month a 150 texts for the tidy sum of £35.
To some of you this may sound expensive but compared to my old contract where i was sometimes paying £46 a month for 120 mins and 50 texts i thought it was a bargain and for my loyalty i have also bagged myself a deal to get between 10% and 15% off my overall priceplan over the next 12 months.

As i have said i purchased my phone from the orange online shop but i have also so found them on the o2 online shop and many other mobile phone dealer's but as far as i know the phone isn't avalible to PAYG customers.

*****Overall Verdict*****

Although i loved my W800i it was time to bring a fresh face to our house and this came in the form of my lovely new friend the Samsung X700, i have become quite attached to him and i am already making my other half jealous which is always good.
