"Sorry for all the techno stuff, ive treid to explain what it is and the result of having it!" This tv packs a punch!!!!! This TV is superb, it is HD ready (High Definition, enhances picture, sound, colour and detail). It has DLP technology which means it is Digital Light Processing, delivers the best picture. The result is maximum fidelity: a picture whose clarity, brilliance and color must be seen to be believed. Along with Virtual Dolby surround sound this adjusts the way the sound emerges from the two stereo speakers on the TV so that your ears are fooled into thinking they are hearing sound from behind them even though there are no rear speakers there. This delivers a better sound than a Nicam TV but is not up to the quality of Dolby Pro Logic or Dolby Digital 5.1. coupled with this is DSP (Digital Sound Processor) means improved digital sound quality it has also got Dynamic Picture Control for ultra-sharp images to the edges of the screen, which by way is a pure flat sreen so this means that the picture will not be distorted in any way. there are a load of conections on the rear of this tv, 1x HDMI (High Bandwidth Digital Multimedia Interface - highest qualit y digital connection), 1X Component Video connection (delivers the ultimate picture resolution), 3X SCART connections this allows audio connection of external equipment such as DVD player, digital box, video recorder or games consol. Picture-In-Picture to view more than one channel this is displayed at the bottom right hand corner.Graphic Equaliser so that you can tailor your own sound experience coupled with picture settings of: custom, cinema, sport, music and standard who needs to go to the cinema to experience sound and picture quality. This tv is supplied on a pedestal stand, ideally it needs to be installed into a corner due to this, also you can get a shelving unit that clips onto the side of the pedestal, try and get it included with the tv as most places will charge extra. I mentioned that the disadvange of this tv is heavy but not bad considering that it is a 50" tv and the bulb!? Well it should last for 20,000 hrs of viewing, ive checked out prices and they are not cheap!! youd be looking out a forking out about £300!! The remote control is very good, easy to use. Instructions are very well laid out and installation is fairly easy, once you sort out what settings you prefer or you can just leave it, no real need to change settings. Hope that this helps you in your decision, but i would say very good value for money.
liked your review, loadsa tec spec and explaining what it all means too. but i would've liked some more personal opinion, I love this set to pieces. we've got the wedding planned for summer '07!
To answer your questions firstly, with a screen size of 50" do you need to look at it close up? If you view too close to any media screen everything distorts.
If you are viewing from an angle i have found that it really does not matter as again with most media screens they will blur/fade colour wise whilst veiwing from an angle.
Due to the size of the screen (as i said it really needs to be installed in a corner as whole unit is on a pedestal and fits neatly into a corner), hence really you should not be veiwing from a severe enough angle to warrant the picture to distort.
The 2000:1 contrast ratio and 1280 x 720 picture resolution means in all that you can get more information projected upto the screen + with samsungs fairly new DNie Digital Natural Image engine this smooths out and enhances all the settings.
i hope that this helps.

What about picture resolution, contrast ratio, brightness? What about the fact that the edges darken if you look at it up close or at an angle?
