...little piece of kit from Samsung is "none of the above". Most of you should have heard of Samsung, they are a Korean company with more than 30 years of experience in the electronics industry - so how do their CD-RW drives fare? Read on.
Those of you reading this will probably already be owners of some sort of backup device - and if not, why not? What price do you put on your precious memories (photographs, video etc), of which there may be hundreds, ... ...thing you'll need is media, Samsung doesn't include this. Prices though are staggeringly cheap, so choose yourself some 52x speed compatible disks, and you're away. Basic specs

The Samsung SW-252F is a CD-RW optical disk drive delivering fast speeds and quiet performance. The SW-252F features high capacity buffer memory and reduces noise and vibration with Samsung's proprietary DVA (Dynamic Vibration Absorber). The drive provides a recording capacity for CD-RW of 700/650 MB (Type 80/74) and for CD-R 800/700/650/550 MB (Type 90/80/74/63). Utilizing an EIDE/ATAPI interface for easy installation, the SW-252F delivers a 110 ms access time and supports variable packet (CD-R) and variable and fixed packet (CD-RW) read/write. The drive offers a burst transfer rate of 16.6 MB/sec in PIO mode 4 and 16.6 MB/sec in DMA mode 2. The SW-252F can be mounted both horizontally and vertically, and can read most disc types, including CD-R, CD-RW, CD-DA, CD-ROM/XA, CD-ROM, Video-CD, CD-I, Photo CD, CD-Extra and CD-Text.
