Manufacturer's product description
The Samsung Spinpoint F1 is the first three-disk hard drive delivering a whopping capacity along with sophisticated recording technology. With its compact, lightweight package and advanced design, the F1 drive offers many advantages for high-density applications. This 3Gbps SATA drive featuring Samsung's industry-leading NoiseGuard and SilentSeek‚ technologies to eliminate acoustic noise. The Spinpoint F1 utilizes Samsung-developed perpendicular recording technology, which helps the drive set new records in both areal density and platter capacity. Servers, high-end desktops, RAID systems and DVRs are among the applications well suited to the Spinpoint F1 drive. The drive is available with desktop PC- or RAID-level reliability. Mean time between failure for RAID reliability is up to 1.2 million hours. A rotational vibration sensor enables the drive to operate more efficiently in a RAID environment. For consumer applications, a power-saving code reduces power consumption while AV-optimized firmware cuts time delays during AV data recording. In general, the Samsung drive offers a superior combination of density, recording quality and reliability.

Advantages: Noise, Speed Disadvantages: Can't think of anything.
...I came across this a week ago, and was taken in by the capacity and low-noise level. It seemed perfect for installing into a media center PC. Media Center boxes for a lounge need to have plenty of space for recording tv shows, whilst being quiet as to not interrupt the movies.
This hard-drive gives you the best of both worlds. 400Gb - an abundance of storage. (Ideal for ripping your entire music collection onto it) or for movies and downloaded tv episodes.
You're probably wondering what the difference is between this and the other 400Gb drives on the market, and this one is quietly leading the way. Top performance, with whisper quiet acoustics.
My verdict - buy one today....

Speedy Samsung Review ofSamsungSpinPoint Hard drive 10.2 GBby
Hellzone
Advantages: everything Disadvantages: nothing
...After 4 or 5 years of using Seagate and western digital I got a bit fed up of self corruption from Seagate and slow relay times from Western digital, so I turned to Samsung.
The very first Samsung hard-drive I purchased was their 4gb IDE series and how I was amazed. Two years down the line and it still works perfectly, with great speeds.
Now that ive bought myself one of their 20gb series I am even more amazed.
The amount this hard-drive can hold and without flaw is astonishing to say the least, it’s a serious Seagate and Western digital beater.
In my opinion you cannot get better than Samsung they rule the hard-drive industry hands down, ive done countless reformats, repartitions everything on both Samsungs and not once has either died on me like the unforgotten Seagate’s which I previously had and neither has it slowed...

Advantages: Low noise, generally low vibration, fairly cool for a 250gb drive, reliability Disadvantages: Not as cool or quiet as the HA250JC, but considerably cheaper
...Following on from the success of the now-legendary HA250JC, Samsung have updated their 250gb product line with this excellent drive. Although it is a 7200rpm drive (unlike the HA250JC which is 5400rpm) this drive still runs pretty cool for a 250gb drive, and with generally low rotational vibration which can lead to hum with some drives when installed in media centre, Sky+ or TiVo.
When "quiet" mode is enabled (using Samsung's HUTIL utility) the seek noise of this drive is extremely soft and quiet - among the quietest 250gb drives we have tested.
Reliability should be good too, as all Samsung drives are generally very reliable - so this should just go on and on in your TiVo or media PC...
All round rating: B+...
