I have had my Samsung SyncMaster 730 MW for over 3 years now and it has been very reliable over the period of time i have had it. For £300 i got a widescreen 17" high resolution display, with a maximum resolution of 1280x1024 and colour support up to 16.2 million colours (32-bit).
In the box you obviously get the monitor, a remote control, essential wires to 1. Connect the monitor to the PC, 2. Connect power to the monitor and 3. To gain access to radio via antennae. There is one downside to all of this which is the non inclusion of a SCART cable, which is used to connect an output device, in this instance an LCD monitor to an external device in order to receive a satellite or a cable signal with which you will be able to view programs, movies etc. You obviously also need the wire linked to the satellite or cable signal in order to successfully transfer the live content from the set-top box to your monitor via the SCART lead.
On the back of the monitor you get 1 SCART socket, sockets which give you the option of adding external audio output devices such as speakers and headphones, sockets for integration with digital video cameras, providing you with the ability to watch recorded video content via the SyncMasters display, a radio and T.V "antennae IN" socket and finally an "audio IN socket". I do not think "SOCKET" is the correct name for the location where the cables are input, but i think you understand what i mean.
Given all the areas of input, you will certainly be able to do more than just view content on this display. You have the option of connecting digital video recorders to your display, listening to the radio or even watch T.V. However i have not tested all of these functions, but i am sure they will work perfectly as Samsung are very popular and famous for their levels of reliability and customer satisfaction. The one function i have tested is the radio function, which is accessible via the press of a button on the included remote control or via the monitor itself. On the remote control the "radio function" button is located on the top right of the remote control just under the number 9 and on the monitor you will find it directly under a label which states FM RADIO.
With the trial and testing of the radio function I have found that the radio antennae does not pick up any radio signal. This may be due to where I live or maybe because the antennae's receiving prowess is not sufficient enough. I am not sure of the root cause of the problem with my monitor, but do not be put off buying the monitor simply because of one defect with my monitor. You may not experience the same problem as my monitor might have been 1 of thousands of monitors which did not get checked thoroughly enough whilst in the quality control phase, most probably by mistake.
The display is NOT HD ready, and if it was then clearly there would be a badge or symbol of some sort suggesting that the monitor is HD ready. Which ultimately means that you will quite definitely not be able to view HD (high definition) content on this particular monitor. But being a Samsung monitor you will definitely get a clear and crisp display, perfect for watching movies and playing games.
The sound quality on this monitor is very good, similar to the sound quality found on Dolby digital surround speaker systems. The speakers on either side of the monitor produce approximately the same level of audio output as a 3 - 4.1 surround sound speaker system. Which is absolutely amazing considering the sheer size of the speakers. The pre-installed sound driver is provided by Realtek, a company known for it's precision and high quality of audio output.
After a while you may experience slight glitches in the monitor display, for example my monitor presently has on the left hand side a vertical line of distorted pixels, which in my case does not affect the monitors video output. You may or may not experience the same problem, maybe this problem arised because of over - usage or simply because it could not handle some higher quality video content. I do not know, but overall the monitor is excellent and really sets a standard amongst all of the monitors which were launched at the same time and many that were launched post (after) to its release.
I recommend this monitor to potential buyers as you will experience premium quality for a not so premium price and also you get a 2 in 1 deal, which makes it all the merrier. You get a T.V/Monitor for a fixed price. I bought this monitor a long time ago and back then it cost £300-£350. But due to this monitors high demand i'm afraid prices from online shops have not dropped. You may be able to find a good deal on the very trusty Ebay website. The great thing about this monitor when purchasing is that you get Samsung's standard 3 year guarantee, which is applicable to all of Samsung's electronic products.

Advantages: light, space-saving, instant warm-up Disadvantages: can buy a very high quality 17" tube for the same price
...2001 when I saw a Samsung SyncMaster 570V TFT going for a "mere" £350 at a local computer fair, I took the plunge. I've subsequently seen them on sale in PC World for £400.
I'll never buy a cathode 17" again. You save an incredible amount of front/back space and don't risk a hernia every time you shift a flat-panel. Characters are crisp and clear at 1024 x 768 resolution and the colours are vibrant.
There's little reason to go down to the interpolated ... ...will be available from the Samsung website.
The CD also contains the intruiging "Pivot" software. This takes advantage of the fact that the screen can be physically swivelled 180 degrees clockwise to present a "portrait" aspect rather than the usual "landscape". Right-clicking the desktop and choosing the command "rotate" moves the entire screen image round so that when you open Word for Windows, or Acrobat reader, say, you are reading a true A4 ...

Advantages: Good Value for money Disadvantages: None at all
...i tend to stick with Samsung products! Reason being is that i have never had any real problem with them! and generally customer services is very good!
i originally Bought a Home computer at the end of 2004! The monitor that came wiv it was a flat screen and it was nice to have some space on the desk with it taking up so little room! But it broke on me on the 13th month, Typically broke after warrenty ended. So I thought I'd see whats out there! ... ...this one. With it being Samsung i didnt worry about the extra £35. I Paid £184.99.
Once I got it home it took less then 5 minutes to set up. Very easy, altho most monitors are these days. Dont really need the instructions that come with it.
The overall design for this Monitor is very sleek and sexy. If you can go that far with a Monitor anyway. But its very stylish and proffessional looking. Buttons are on the Bottom of the Screen for Settings. ...

Advantages: Vivd, crisp colours, no ghosting Disadvantages: None that i can think of.
After many years using my old CRT i decided to make the leap to TFT and i have never looked back, thanks to this product.
I was looking for a reasonably priced TFT screen with a low response time and this monitor seemed to fit the bill perfectly. I play alot of computer games and this low response time means there is little or no ghosting on the screen (when the image tends to blur with fast action), so this is a great monitor for gaming.
To set ... ...video cable ( you get a dvi cable and a d-sub one too) from the back of your pc to the monitor and running a (provided) power lead from the monitor to a socket, its that simple and you are off. There was software provided but i didnt use it, it seems to be fine without.
The screens native resoultion is 1280x1024 which is very good for casual use and gaming, especially in games, this makes the textures appear alot sharper, therfore improving the ...

Advantages: Cheap, HD Ready, Good Audio, Brilliant Picture Disadvantages: quite wide with the speakers
This is a fantastic piece of TV equipment. If you are going to spend around £300 and want all the bells and whistles this is the one to go for. The speakers are brilliant and so is the picture quality. It has so many ports on the back i dont know what to do with most of them. Its HD Ready (via componant), has 2x PC inputs, scart, analogue input, RGB and s-video, plus audio in and out. PLUS Picture in Picture which is brilliant
This is the perfect ...

Advantages: Good quality and full of functions Disadvantages: Very poorly written manual, you will have to find out how to do everything by yourself
I bought this Samsung from PcWorld for £299. I needed a LCD TV to use as a monitor for my computer, and to be occasionally used as a second TV. But ever since I watched TV it is hardly been used on the computer. The quality of the picture is very good, and is comparable to my normal TV. This TV is stacked with features. The ability to watch TV and use the computer at the same time is a great feature. You could also listen to FM radio, and the quality ... ...Surround Sound is so good, that I sometimes look behind just to check that there are no speakers. You could connect this TV to anything; it has S-Video, SCART, Component Video Input, and Aerial Input. You could also connect this TV to a computer through either VGA or DVI-D.
The only problem with this TV is that the manual provided is very limited and does not explain or tell you what features this TV has. I had to play around and find out what I ...
