...years now, I decided on Samsung as I bought a 15" Samsung Syncmaster monitor in 1995 and I still use it as a test monitor to this day, 10 years of use and still flawless, the reason I went for another Samsung.
I've always been a fan of Samsung as I have never purchased a poor Samsung product.
The Syncmaster 753DF is a 17" monitor of which around 16" is actually viewable. The actual screen is completely flat as ... ...it's anything like my 15" Samsung from 1995). I'm not sure if they continue to produce this monitor but I'd be surprised if they did. If you happen to see one at a computer fayre or online somewhere and you're looking for a good quality 17" monitor then I can recommend the Samsung SyncMaster 753DF.
I've been using this monitor for a couple of years now, I decided on Samsung as I bought a 15" Samsung Syncmaster monitor in 1995 and I still use it as a test monitor to this day, 10 years of use and still flawless, the reason I went for another Samsung. I've always been a fan of Samsung as I have never purchased a poor Samsung product.
The Syncmaster 753DF is a 17" monitor of which around 16" is actually viewable. The actual screen is completely flat as opposed to the curved screens and I mean completely flat, you could put a spirit level across it and it would show you how flat the glass really is, I'm not sure what effect this is meant to have on the user but I prefer it to the standard curved screen. The glass on the monitor has an anti-reflective coating and surprisingly this does actually work; on a bright day you can still see your reflection in the monitor but everything appears to take on a dark-blue tint, a weird effect which is quite hard to explain but it defiantely works. There's the usual problems with sun shining on the monitor though, this can't really be solved by the monitor manufacturers, it's usually solved by closing the curtains/blinds.
The maximum resolution this monitor can display is 1280 x 1024 which isn't a brilliantly high resolution but it will fit most users needs, I don't know anybody who uses a resolution at or above what this monitor displays. The maximum refresh rate of the monitor is 100Hz at 800x600, 85Hz at 1024x768 and 75Hz at 1152x864. I use the monitor at 1152x864 as I use a lot of graphics applications and I don't find any problem with the refresh rate of the monitor.
The quality of the picture is very clear, I've seen monitors previously which are a little "out of focus" but the SyncMaster 753 produces a very clear and sharp image. The menu on this monitor is very easy to use, in the past I've sat at the computer for ages trying to work out how to change the size of the picture, switching through loads of menus just to change the size of the screen, the SyncMaster 753 however I find the menu very easy to use; on the front of the monitor there are 4 buttons, one to go to the menu and select things, one to exit from the menu and 2 left/right change selection buttons to go to the option you require. There are no wheels underneath the monitor to change the brightness/contrast, this is changed from the menu, this could be a disadvantage to some users who are used to changing the brightness/contrast by rotating a wheel underneath the monitor.
The SyncMaster 753 weighs 16.4kg which is pretty light for a 17" pure-flat monitor, so you shouldn't have too many problems moving it around (Not like you move your monitor often anyway). The tube on the monitor is pretty large so if you've got a small desk you might find that the monitor comes pretty far out from the wall although I guess this is a problem with a lot of monitors as the larger the screen, the longer the tube.
Conclusion: I'm very happy with this monitor and will use it until I can't resist buying a larger screen or the monitor dies (Which will be a long time if it's anything like my 15" Samsung from 1995). I'm not sure if they continue to produce this monitor but I'd be surprised if they did. If you happen to see one at a computer fayre or online somewhere and you're looking for a good quality 17" monitor then I can recommend the Samsung SyncMaster 753DF.
Advantages: Great quality, exceptionally clear and lifelike picture, slick design Disadvantages: None noted
...have a solution for you. Samsung 753DF. Samsung has been known to be producing exceptionally nice and quality products that are priced more than reasonably. The 753DF is one of their better known entry level flat screen monitors. The first thing that you will notice with this monitor is a quite ergonomic and slick design, thus making this monitor a centerpiece of any conversation. The back of the monitor is shaped into nice sloped curvature that ... ...was more than impressive since Samsung is known to be equipping a quite extensive grid of warranty authorized service depots both nationwide and internationally. Thus if you ever have a problem with your unit, which I doubt you will, your monitor will be serviced quickly and with a least amount of down time which is quite important considering that it is quite tough if not impossible to do anything with your computer without some kind of monitor ...

Advantages: Excellent value, very good picture. Disadvantages: Needs a little basic know how to install but not a real problem.
If you are on the look out for a new monitor then this is well worth a try. This 17" flatscreen monitor costs just under £200 and has a real crisp clear picture. For the techies out there it has a 16" viewable screen with a horizontal dot pitch of 0.20mm andd 0.24 diagonal, which Im led to believe is very good. The horizontal synchronization is 20kHz to 70 kHz and 50 Hz to 160 Hz vertical which again at this price is excellent. Maximum resolution ...
