Ordered from Simply Computers and received the next day, to replace an old monitor that was on its last legs. What you get in the packing box is the monitor itself with the base stand detached which is easily attached to the underside of the monitor. There was also 2 power cables, standard UK power cable, and a 2 pin plug cable for Europe I guess. The monitor video cable itself is permanently connected to the monitor with a D-Sub connector to fit almost all PC graphic cards. You also get a CD containing couple of programs called Magic Tune and Natural Colour. Magic Tune allows you to resize the monitor picture display, altering the brightness and contrast, shrink or expand the screen, degauss, etc without having to use the manual push buttons along the right hand side of the monitor itself. The Natural Colour allows you to calibrate the colour settings output of your monitor, and to create a printer colour so that if you have a printer and you print a image, it should almost perfectly match the image displayed on the monitor.
Setting up was easy, plug into wall, plug video cable into back of pc graphic card socket, turn on pc, windows automatically detects monitor, no drivers needed to install.
This monitor is not flat CRT screen, but that is to be expected for what I paid for it. Design of monitor is sleek, not your typical boxy monitor. Picture quality ok, but not as good as my Vision Master pro monitors, but again that is to be expected for what I paid for this monitor. It can run at a screen resolution of 1280 x 1024, but only at 60Hz, which is not great for the eyes, but these are always maximum resolutions it can handle, and generally you would run it at a slight lower screen resolution anyway. Not sure how shielded the monitor is, but in the vicinity of a TV you will get some screen wobble, but I’ve hardly come by a monitor to date that doesn’t start to screen wobble in the presence of a TV (in the vicinity of half a meter or so). You can tilt and swivel the monitor, but it doesn’t tilt far enough back, due to the monitor having a lower stand than most other monitors.
Overall, a very good budget monitor capable of doing higher resolution and refresh rate compared to other 17” monitors in the low end price range.
