Having coped with a 14" screen for the past 4 years, I thought in March that it was high time I gave my eyes a rest. Having done a vast amount of research, I decided on the Samsung 900SL Plus.
The main selling point of this screen is its short depth CRT. This was absolutely essential for me, as I had little desk space to spare being deep in A-Level study at the time. The monitor takes up the same depth as a longer 15" monitor, and yet still has excellent image quality. The screen is slightly curved as a result of the short depth technology, but this does not affect its use, for me at least.
Supplied in the box are the monitor, monitor stand (twist and tilt), software manual and CD, a standard VGA cable and a standard power cable.
The On-Screen Display is very intuitive, and although some have complained of the layout of the buttons I find it better than on most monitors.
Windows 9x should automatically detect the monitor once attached, and then its just a case of inserting the supplied CD and browsing to the drivers folder. Also included on the CD is the Colorific software for calibrating your monitor so the colours on screen match the colours on a printout, but I have no need for this so have not installed it.
One of the few niggles I have with this monitor is the fact there is no USB hub preinstalled, however there is provision for one to be added, along with attachments for the custom speakers. As well as the standard VGA monitor port (15 way D-Sub connector), there are a set of BNC connectors for those who need it. The VGA to BNC cable required to use these is not supplied. If you have this cable you can also use the screen to switch between two computers, very handy for you techheads out there :)
All in all I am extremely pleased with my purchase. It is excellent for both Windows and 3D gaming, and DVDs appear crisp and in focus. It is a bit pricey, but for the features you get it is worth it!
The SyncMaster 900SL+ offers the benefits of a big size screen 19" monitor in a compact design. The depth of the 900SL+ has been reduced to less than that of a 15" monitor by using a short-length CRT thus providing the user with more deskspace. This 19" display (18" V.I.S.) also offers razor-sharp, perfect flicker-free images with maximum refresh rates at 1, 600x1, 200 /87Hz. Its complete Plug & Play compatibility allows you to take full advantage of the latest programs and it also complies with the most rigid standards of TCO 99 for emission and power consumption. The 900SL+ is a combination of the right size, quality and safety for the most discriminating users.
