I ordered this TV/Monitor for use in my bedroom - to be hooked up to a Sky+ box.
In all honestly, my expectations were not high - I'm a bit of an AV buff and really didn't think that a sub £200 TV could cut the mustard...but boy was I wrong!!
First step was obviously unpacking the set, where I found that everything was well packaged and also nicely laid out in the box so that I didn't have to go searching for different parts. After I had it all out and laid on the floor in front of me I grabbed the instruction sheet for assembling the stand - and the mind really did boggle. I know that written instructions often become a bit garbled when translated from a foreign language - but I can honestly say that I've never heard of pictures being lost in translation before! The assembly is very straight forward though - simply clip the bracked to the back of the set and then slide into the base - so my advice to any prospective purchasers would be to simply disregard the assembly sheet and use your common sense.
Once the stand was done, it was a simple case of plugging in the AC adapter and aerial and firing it up using the touch sensitive power button. The power on sequence is accompanied by a pleasant bleep to let you know it's on and a red light glows behind the touch panel once it's been activated. The auto setup (plug and go) system kicked in as soon as the set was switched on, and it really was plug and go. All I had to do was press enter to confirm I was in the UK and away it went tuning in the analogue channels. A couple of minutes later I was prompted to press enter once more and it got on with tuning the DVB (freeview) services that I can receive.
Freeview reception via the inbuilt DVB tuner is VERY impressive - with my old standalone freeview box I was lucky to pick up 35 stations, but this model is receiving in excess of 50!
The remote control is very intuitively laid out, with all of the buttons you would expect and a nice tactile response to button presses - so there should be no jumping to channel 33 when all you want is Corrie street...
Picture quality is fantastic and really puts my 37" HD set to shame - looks like I will be seriously considering a Samsung when it comes time to upgrade the lounge equipment. I've tried it out with a selection of DVB channels, as well as a high speed action DVD and there was no noticeable motion blur - nor any graphical corruption.
The sound, surprisingly, is simply amazing. Those little downward firing speakers built into the bottom edge of the set really do it proud. I had been considering buying a cheapish surround system and hooking it up via the optical output, but I think I'd struggle to find any external system that would match the quality for less than I paid for the TV.
So, to round up, a cracking little TV - ideal for bedroom or kitchen, with fantastic SQ and PQ and a wonderful array of features.
