OK it's a Samsung CZ-21A083N to be precise, it has composite A/V (three sockets) and headphone connections at the left side of the unit. The headphone socket is usefull as my amplifier decided to just stop working what seems like a long time ago, this will have to do for now, music is something I need with a nice volume as well. Here's a useful amplification tip, you have a DVD player or something with a headphone output, but it ain't loud ... ...from standby mode, then again Samsung has been making mobile phones lately.
Traditional screen versus Widescreen:
Having watched a few widescreen films on this TV I notice that the sizes of the picture are equivalent to the widescreen TV pictures of widescreens that cost twice as much anyway albeit the borders are covered up by widescreen cases (providing it's one of those 28" ones anyway). It's the borders on traditional ... more
[Addition 16/6/04] It's probably not a big deal but I was quite amused to see some clear views of this television in Kill Bill Vol. 2 (near the end). I was distracted from the film just thinking "hey, that's my TV, what were the chances it would be that model"...only for it to get blown up! ----------------------- Ok, after much internal fuss from my inner conscience, I decided to get a new bigger TV to replace a dozen year old Atari ST monitor. I took a lot of consideration over which TV to get. Only 4:3 normal CRT TVs fitted into my budget, but that's fine because old fashioned big built CRT TVs have the best colour definition screens anyway for the cheapest prices as opposed to those plasma screens that cost upto twenty times as much. I'm very much aware about screen geometry, due to apparent magnetic forces of the Earth and accompanied factory settings, the picture of televisions can get a little warped. This Sanyo television used as the family TV at the moment, has some curled up corners (and the sound hisses like a snake too).
Anyway, my dad is signed up at a big warehouse store called Makro. We got an offers catalogue and in it comes a reasonably priced television, at least so it seems for the shown spec. £152.75 for a Nicam Stereo 51CM Flat Screen "Plano" Samsung. We go to the store, any ideas from using the money to put towards a PS2 instead are put to rest when my dad informs me that he got back from work early to go to the store. So we're in the big store, with a very unwieldy cake scooper trolley that turns like a steam roller plus the fact that my dad crawls down and around every single aisle...
Ok fast forward and we're home and I'm pulling the cardboard box open with all my might to get some room to pull the slightly heavy 21" out. I put it down as I realise I can't get my bedroom door wide enough to fit it through, a bit of bass guitar and spaghetti junction cable assortment later, I'm heaving the thing onto my bed and finally I squash my DVD player with it. The grey mass of the television sticks out everywhere like it's four times the size of the 14" monitor and I think that maybe I'm glad I didn't decide for a 28" for a bedroom TV.

The headphone socket is usefull as my amplifier decided to just stop working what seems like a long time ago, this will have to do for now, music is something I need with a nice volume as well. Here's a useful amplification tip, you have a DVD player or something with a headphone output, but it ain't loud enough...get those awful PC speakers you almost always get with your new PC (with a headphone socket), connect them to the DVD player headphone output and get extra amp :) However the PC speakers I tried have the stereo the wrong way round!
The screen is supposed to be pure flat but none of them are really, they curve slightly inwards instead, flat screens reduce directional glinting and have less distortion, but going back to that geometry thing I can't help but notice that the top right corner of the screen (noticeable on wide screen letterboxes) is peeling upwards. I'm one whose going to be playing a driving game and looking at the corner going "hmm" before plunging my car head into a wall on the streets of Rome. That particular example is based on an actual experience by the way. This is a common problem with television sets which you have probably not noticed...well till now, sorry.
The television has an alright, okay picture quality to it, but then again I think those £1000 projection screens do as well. There's a bit of colour bleed fuzz stuff on static images (and I beleive that this is from an RGB scart signal). There are picture controls for the television, there are a few presets and a custom option but all of them seem to have slight bit too much contrast for what I would deem natural looking. I use this "Mild" setting as the most natural looking display.
The speakers are way thin, it's weird, I've heard the smallest speakers rumble with some good bass. The sound on this television does very well for itself. There is some noise on higher volumes though. There are controls to set the sound style for music, movies etc. I generally go for custom 100% bass, 100% treble myself though. There is also an option to increase the dynamics of the sound to give it that little bit more impact. On the sound issue, you might be interested that I point out that this TV plays a two little Super Mario Brothers style tunes on turning it on and off from standby mode, then again Samsung has been making mobile phones lately.
Traditional screen versus Widescreen: Having watched a few widescreen films on this TV I notice that the sizes of the picture are equivalent to the widescreen TV pictures of widescreens that cost twice as much anyway albeit the borders are covered up by widescreen cases (providing it's one of those 28" ones anyway). It's the borders on traditional ratio pictures that most VHS videos have on the sides on widescreen TVs that worries me.
An alternative flat screen would be a Sony Trinitron Flatscreen but that would be nearly twice as much, there are Toshiba and Philips televisions as well, but I read that Toshiba has a tradition of bad tilting screen geometry (they make them on pirate ships probably) and I always find that there's something niggly about a Philips product (I'll write opinions on this monitor I'm using now, the monitor that was replaced by this TV and the DVD player by Philips soon, probably).
OK, I think that I would recommend this product overall for the good value, I would recommend Hobbits stick to 14" screens though, because of the weight of these things (not because smaller people-smaller screen...have you seen the size of Frodo's eyes?).
Advantages: Excellent Picture quailty, Excellent sound performance Disadvantages: left and right audio sockets are on the side
...replace it with our new Samsung WS-28M64N. For me and my partner this was the best looking, best specifications and best price for us within our local Curry's store.
Although we were pessimistic, as our first T.V from this store was of a such poor standard.
We had to wait 2 days for our new T.V to be ready to collect from the store and in the meantime we had to bare with a 16 inch portable.
Once we had arrived to collect the T.V there was a gruelling ... ...or not.
Overall we are pleased that we choose this T.V as our replacement. It has good Nicam and Dolby sound excellent picture display and a good functional remote which has a slide down section for a VCR.

There, that got your attention didn't it? Go on admit it, you seen the word SEX and got nosey, well I'm afraid I have tricked you, so you might as well read on :)...
I recently needed to replace my television for my bedroom, as my original one took the knock, well anyway, I required a decent size one, nothing too big and nothing fancy like wide-screen, so I took a look in my girlfriends catalogue (as I didn’t have the money to buy cash), so ... ...nicam stereo”, which looked nice and neat, and at £199 I thought yeah that looks ok, so I ordered it, yes I know, it is only about £160 in the shops, but as I have already stated, unfortunately I didn’t have the cash, so I had no choice.
A week later my Television arrived, so I unwrapped it and set it up, and WOW I thought, this is really a very decent television, Great Picture, Great sound, Very attractive, Fast-text, etc, as a matter ...

Advantages: Widescreen,Flatscreen, sound, picture, design Disadvantages: Instruction manual, stand
I bought this TV in November 2002 from Comet for £399 complete with stand. Do not buy from Dixons as its £450 for the same tv! What attracted me to this tv was firstly the flatscreen, with flatscreen the picture looks good where ever you are in the room! The next aspect being the price. This was very good condidering the features - and a respectable brand too. It came well packaged in a huge box - the stand packed seperatly. The stand was a nightmare ... ...and boyfriend we got there! The problem is you have to screw the actual tv to the bottom of the stand following a plan as to where the screws should go depending on the model. We had to take the middle shelf out again to do this as we didnt have enough room. So if you get one remember to put the middle shelf in last! Once we got the tv on the stand - then came the exciting part - turning it on. It makes a cool tune when you turn it on and off - diddle ...

...effects.
My new bought Samsung TV is widescreen, brand new, correct remote control and some excellent features. You can customise the picture, sound (music and speech) and the picture is exceptionally clear.
When you turn the TV on it plays a cute little tune and takes what I consider a long time to actually produce the picture on the TV. When you turn the TV off via the stand-by button you get the same cute little tune! The exterior of the TV ... ...is the on/off switch so it's fairly child proof. As long as the remote control is out of the way of my toddler's meddling fingers the custom settings I have created stay that way when the TV is switched on and off.
I recommend anybody buy a Samsung, it was reasonable in price (£399) and the sales staff at Currys were very open and honest throughout the sale. ...
